135 Square 09 135

I have searched and read and it's still not clear to me. I want all 4 wheels and tires to be identical for ease of rotation. I don't mind spacers but obviously the thinner the better. Don't have to be, but I was thinking 18s. 18x8 ET 40 with 225/40s? Or 235/40s? Stock suspension and height.

Any help appreciated

I would suggest ET45 and run 235/40/18. You're going to be rotating tires a lot.

We typically recommend 8.5 ET45 with a 225/40/18 for a square setup.

Thanks. E82MSport, why rotate often? 5-7K miles no?

VMR, wouldn't I want the widest possible for the rear?

Square setup is difficult on the 1 series because there is very limited front fender clearance. You can try 235/40/18 front tires, but you need wheels with ET45 offset. Its still going to be very tight to fit on the front. You might be able to fit it with alignment pin removal and a front fender roll and trim the bumper tabs. It will also depend on which tires you buy. If you choose a tire that is unusually wide, then you can have major trouble unless you add a lot of negative camber.

You make a lot of good points. I looked through the wheel fitment thread and noticed there were a couple people running ET45 with 235/40's front on stock suspension and alignment but it's gotta be tight. For reference, I run an ET45 front 8.5 with 245/35's MPSS but I have -2.5 camber, rolled fenders and trimmed tabs.

My thought was to get as much tire for the rear that would also fit in the front. As you mentioned John 01, you might have clearance issues unless you make a few changes. It might be better to do as suggested by VMRWheels stated and run 225/40 square.

Reasoning on rotating frequently is the power to rubber ratio on the rear. Even stock, the 245's in the rear usually only last half as long as the fronts. To keep wear even they will need to be rotated more often with a 225/40 square setup.

I'd probably go for 235/40 or if you have enough camber, willing to do some fender mods, not too low and can find the right tyre, try a 245/35 square setup.

I think a 225 and even a 235 are going to struggle with the power unless you got some seriously sticky tyres. Stock sizing is 245 with stock power.

I run an effective et42 255 square setup, and i just barely clear the strut with 255 tires. I needed to roll the fenders, use the free camber mod, and trim the tabs to clear on high impact bumps.

The cheapest way to do this is get an extra set of 18x8.5 stock wheels and put them up front with a 10mm or 12mm spacer

I run a no-rub, stock fender (no-roll) setup with 8.5x18 ET42 rims and 245/35-18 RFTs.

The Bridgestone RE-050A RFT tires aren't as wide as most other tires in their category. If you compare with tires in the Max performance category, most brands 235/40/18 are a similar width to 245/35/18 Bridgetone RFT. Even Bridgstone's conventional Non-RFT RE050A is almost 1 size bigger than the same size fitment in the RFT version.

My suggestion would be to look at a 235/40/18 such as Conti DW, or Michelin Pilot super sport. They are already moderately wide tires, so I think you will at least need to remove the alignment pins and a light roll of the front fenders as I wrote in my previous post. If you just want a straight-forward fitment, then going staggered 225/40/18 front, 245/35/18 is a logical choice for 8.5" wide rims. I just want to emphasize that a lot depends on exactly which brand and model of tire you choose.

I guess I'd ask why? In not sure rotating vs. not will last any longer with narrower tires on the rear.

Better idea might be to get a better alignment set up w/ some added negative camber and run wider instead of narrower rear tires. ??
