Great time mate, I want those tyres now. I found the limits of the old Hankook S1 Evo's I had on pretty quickly.

Yes the dunlops are terrific tyres. Even when they are half worn. My fastest lap came about when I was chasing a bloke in a 335i (John Keep) who obviously assisted in showing me the lines around Lakeside.
I find it unreal that these cars are so good out of the box. Thes 7spd dct is like having a hollinger and must save some time. The brakes were faultless. The stock suspension bottoms out coming down into Hungrys and understeers badly through the carosoul. Flat through the Kink is ok tho. John said M3 lower control arms and some camber tops saved him a sec, so will be investing in them soon |

Yeah John's done many laps around Lakeside.
Interested to know how many gears you use at Lakeside. With my 6sp manual I just use 3rd & 4th, with four changes/lap. Down to 3rd into the Carousel & also into Hungry. Still lifting for the kink on my Kumho tyres too |

I hit fifth just before the kink, but I shift at 6k to 6.4k and don't hold the gear to redline.

Yeah, did one day at Lakeside just over a month ago. Booked in again on Oct 28.
Now since I last went to a timed track day in March 2010, I've changed more than just the diff. I've put the M3 front control arms & (E92) swaybar on & fitted KW V2s. So many changes to analyse. Suspension wise the car feels much more planted than before - though I could probably tighten up the rebound damping a little for the track I think. With regards to the LSD, I get much more drive out of tight uphill corners (Hungry) than before but now need to control my brain/right foot to not induce too much power oversteer. This was not an issue before & Lakeside is not a forgiving track for these antics with the unskilled (me). I should probably do a skidpan day to learn this art with the LSD. The net result of all my changes is an improvement of less than half a second I'm hoping this is just due to my Kumho KU36s sitting unused in the garage for 18 months & drying out/hardening? If not I've wasted money & time &/or lost some skills/ball size. I've still got the Kumhos on and they are dangerous on the road in the wet. With no tune I can floor it in third in a straight line and easily spin up both rear tyres. It's much worse in wet corners as you'd expect. I'm looking forward to using up the Kumhos on Oct 28 and then putting on some decent track rubber like Koastal's got. Doubt I'll be matching his awesome 62s laps though. |

Yeah, it took me a while to wear off the blobs of molten rubber after my last track day. Will put the OEM RFT equipped 261s back on after Oct 28. |

Dz03 are to me the ultimate track tyre maybe bettered by the AO50 which I have not tried, but apparently much better than the AO48 for sprint events |

I recall that the BMW 135i's at BMW driver training days use Ferrodo brake bads. I spoke to one of the mechanics fitting them and he said they worked better than standard 135i's pads, and with less dust (which is what i noticed).
It was at the time the 135i's were introduced into the driver training program so he didn't have any insight on rotor wear. I didnt drive on them as i was in an M3 for the day. The 135i was the 'leader' car. |

I'm chasing a new set of pads at the moment for use mostly on road with the occasional track day. Keen to eliminate/reduce the dust like everyone else. Will do some research on here later but happy to hear recommendations from others. Don't want a harsh, noisy, abrasive, full on race type pad.

i got about 6 track days out of a pair of hawk semi ceramic performance pads and they gave less dust, but the dust they gave was red and looked worse. good brakes however and didn't totally destroy the discs, definately good for the track

The more of a high temp, high friction aggressive race type brake pad you go for the more dust and wear you will get.
There are no exceptions. It is a question of compromises and what you are willing to live with.
