BMW Drive course
I'm referring to the free BMW drive day that's included with the M cars.
I got my letter today and it says it's the 'BMW Intensive Driving Experience' course. http://www.bmw.com.au/com/en/insight...intensive.html Looking at the link, that sounds very basic. I don't want to learn what ABS is and seating position, I've done all this before. I want the M Dynamic day. Are you able to choose or upgrade? |

Comes in a pretty Arnotts biscuits tin with your Roadside Assistance card.
There's a booklet in there and underneath it is the invitation to the drive day and 12 months membership to a BMW car club of your choice. unboxing ceremony akin to an iphone! |

It's been some time back, but i've done both. I thought having an M car gave those a free kick to the M dynamic day...? clearly the rules have changed. In some cases you might not be able to do the M dynamic course without first having done the Intensive course. The M dynamic is definitely the one to do. I personally thought there wasn't a huge 'training' element on either of the courses. It's not like the instructor sat in the car with you etc. It was very much a "here's an M3, here is PI", go have fun... Not sure if the course structure has varied since. Either way, to go out and drive hard in a M car is |

the intensive day is fun but also frustrating if you are pretty familiar with the track, apparently you have to do it before you can do the more advanced class, but you would be mad to do the more advanced class at over a grand for the day. i mean most of the intensive day is spent getting ear bashed by geoff brabham about tail gating and poor driver education so the advanced day would want to be a shit load better for the price when you can do a track day for 1/4 the price and hog a good instructor and you will learn alot more.
anyway, i think you should just do the day as its free, |

My partner attended this recently given it was included with her E90 320d MY2011. Seems like the BMW Driver Training calendar has phased out the basic and advanced courses, and now operates predominantly intensive (and occasionally M dynamic) courses. I believe that intensive was prerequisite to M dynamic.
From my one attendance last year, there was a tight leash on participants (driving THEIR vehicles), compared to track/club events (driving OUR vehicles) ie follow the leader, max 220km/h on PI straight, full safety settings (mandatory). Even for participants with prior driving training or circuit time, I think the advantage is developing camaraderie, and comparing the 125i-323i-M3 vehicles. |

Thanks Tim but they will have me in a 118d, 123d, 328i and finally the M3.
Sounds like I'll spend most of the day talking about fuel economy. Seriously, a diesel drive day after buying an M car ... |

I got M dynamic course as part of my deal buying 1M. Also got an invitation to the 1/2 day Intensive course in October.
I did 2 day level 3 course (I think it's equiv to Intensive course) in Philip island back in 2007. That was good fun. |

The M Entitlement is used towards their Intensive course – however, if you have previously completed Intensive course and receive an M Entitlement, you can upgrade to their M Dynamic course and pay the $500 balance. I was also told by the coordinator that If you complete the half-day session, you will be eligible to partake in M Dynamic Driving Experience. Not sure how true that is
If you have an EPP owing to you (which is a one-off $465 discount) you can use this also towards the $500 balance for the upgrade to M Dynamic course. There is also a 2 day course which they don't advertise, by invitation only |

When I did the M Dynamic course, there was a guy who had upgraded from the Intensive course included with his M3. In his case he had done a lot of track days and probably had a basic cams license. Its possible to upgrade if you can convince them!
The intensive course is also very good, but more aimed at people who are driving on a track for the first time. You still get quite a lot of laps and time on the skid pan. The main difference is that the M dynamic course is done exclusively driving the M3, and you get a bit more latitude to drive quicker and experience different setting of stability controls. For the intensive course you must keep stability control turned on, except for slalom course and on the skid pan. |
