Lightest 17 & 18 inch wheels?

Looks are important but weight reduction is the topic. 17" for the Mini Cooper are claimed to be as low as 12 pounds but I do not think they are rated for the weight of the 135I chassis. What are some light weight brands? Any recommendations from Tire Rack?

The OZ Alleggerita HLT are lighter than the Ultraleggeras, but not as nice looking IMO.

Popular autocross/track wheels for the M3 are the SSR wheels. For the 135 you can get the SSR Type F, run a 17x8 square setup, each wheel is only 16.6 lbs.

Not exactly the cheapest though...

I have D Force LTW5s 17x9 @ 16.3lbs each, with a square setup for autocross/track. Noticeable difference in throttle response by losing more than 15lbs each corner of unsprung weight.

D-force is hands down one of the best and lightest wheel options, especially for the money!

the d-force numbers are close, but all understated in this thread. 17x9 is 16.6lbs.

The ARC-8 groupbuy for the new 18" wheels were working on (18x8.5" front 18x9.5" rear) will be in the 18-19lbs range.

you really need to look at a lot when comparing weights, as the breyton wheels are stupid narrow. they're light but barely hold any rubber on them. If your're doing lots of autocross events, HPDE's, races, then the lighest wheels of the RIGHT fitment is what's most important.

What tire size do you want to run, and what are you doing with it? If you're on the street 99% of the miles you drive, then what are you trying to get out of the wheels?

+1 Offset is not optimal for wider tires tho. I can only run 245's square with front rolling + increased negative camber.

I'm selling my 17x9's LTW-5s once my Apex wheels come in. The Apex wheels are 2lbs heavier a corner, but look way nicer, are 18" versus 17", are 1/2" wider, and are the correct offset for some mucho fatty tires.

It seems to me that this thread pretty much got to answer to this topic very quickly!

I was looking for lightweight wheels but looks and fit were still very important to me. I was considering OZ's but was waiting to probably get in on that DForce groupbuy that fizzled. I actually really liked the way those wheels looked. But before the groupbuy fizzled I found a set of used Volks that somewhat fit and purchased them. If I hadn't I'm sure I'd be stuck trying to decide on the Apex's vs just going ahead and custom ordering some Volks. It would be a tough decision for me. If looks aren't an issue then the main issue would be the Apex's would fit much better and cost much less at similar weights. The Volks (or an HRE or some other forged wheel) would be a sturdier wheel and might not cost so much more in the long run if you crack and Apex or two. But then again you could crack a Volk, which could really be expensive it not repairable. My Volks are 19's so I didn't really get as much weight savings and of course I'm more likely to crack them since I have less tire height.

Actually, I do 100% street driving and have changed to considerably lighter wheels on my last two cars, and every time I hugly appreciated all the benefits. Car (comparison) test can nag about nuances of handling and can make or break a (sports)car model and/or make car win test or not. Then if car culture was logical than light wheels should be just as important, but practice shows that looks/status is what is most important for most people.

Fair enough, just don't think light wheels don't make a difference on road driving - at least if you have interesting roads that allow it (driving that is)...

I cant wait to end my wheel search with these ARC-8 puppies!
