What do I need to stick on the trunk spoiler?
Hey guys. I got new carbon fiber spoiler on E82. But the problem is... I don't know what is the best thing to stick it on. Somebody say some special glue, other guy say that silicon (sikaflex) is best or 3M tape.
What is the (if it's possible) easiest, cheapest and longest durability way to do that? |

I tried using 3M tape. The corners near the left and right always popped up and never would make a full bond. Even tried a second time with 3M.
You might have better luck than me.

Dealing with that now. Got all but 6 inches on the passenger side good to go right away. Those last 6 inches are stubborn. I lifted just the one end and cleaned and re-taped and then taped it all down for 3 days straight. Knocking wood right now. If that doesn't work I will be in some boat as OP.

This is the tape you need to use. If you search for the 3m spec sheet, you will see it's on a different level when it comes to strength and durability. Also note, the link I sent is a new oem roll, there are vendors on Amazon that sell respooled rolls from a huge roll, I wouldn't buy that as one side has been peeled off. You will have to trim the tape near the ends of the spoiler with an xacto knife, but that's true for all tapes. My oem performance spoiler is completely flush with this tape except for the very very ends, but nobody can tell to be honest. Tape: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016HM7SE/ref=biss_dp_t_asn
I also recommend using the bond enhancer wipe. It's not required, but I did it as an extra precaution: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00RY...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm going to warn you now, you only have one shot to get the spoiler on, once the tape sticks, it's not coming off.

Thanks for replies. Anyway, some friend told me that he is using some type
polyurethane adhesive for body kits, spoilers, etc... Anybody else has experience with this type of adhesive? |

BetaLink, the BMW recommended adhesive, is a polyurethane adhesive. If you think you may want to part out and resell the spoiler at a later date, don't use it.

I think for your DIY types... you need to prep the painted trunk surface first(with some Isopropyl alcohol) in order to remove any waxes or sealers. That's probably why the ends are coming up. Also... downforce over time is probably to blame too.

Also keep in mind, the quality of the piece you get will determine how well it sticks down. That said... When my first spoiler broke in an accident, the OEM Performance spoiler I got to replace it was installed by BMW using 3M tape. There's absolutely no reason to use Betalink.

prep-solvents...
Besides using 100% pure, Isopropyl alcohol - a good prep-solvent would be the preferred chemical to use....

Second one is on perfectly, zero gaps anywhere. Can't be more satisfied with the workmanship this time, though with slightly under 1 year on V2 only time will tell.

Amazing, are you doing the work yourself, or having it built?
Please make a thread when you have time, I'd love to see more!

I used automotive 3m tape to tape mine ebay one on. Prep just like Dackelone post. But I also used a heat gun, not a blow dryer, heat up both the trunk, tape and spoiler before sticking it on. Its been on for a year with -20 degree C winter. Still on tight. Reason I want to use tape is so that it can be remove if need to.
