E30. Don't waste your time with pump gas maps.

I appreciate the suggestion
can you elaborate why pump gas maps are a waste and what the E30 is exactly?

Lol they're not a waste, i'm just not particularly impressed with them and running pump gas if you have access to more octane is a waste of the motor's potential. The pump gas mapping runs a very modest advance curve, which is not a bad thing seeing as how they have to run equally well on every car using the Access Port. So things like altitude, temperature, humidity, gas quality, etc etc has to be compensated for in the maps. So they're quite conservative.

The E30/Race maps run a much more suitable and aggressive advance curve, the boost profile really doesn't change much. But it's a much stronger map, and in my mind the motor is happier with some ethanol in the tank. E30 stands for 30% ethanol; so a mixture of 93 pump gas with E85 until a total mixture of E30 is achieved. The ethanol allows for increased knock threshold, increased octane, cooler burn, cooler EGT...it's good stuff all in all.

So to be very clear-do not run the E30 maps on pump gas. You will pull out tons of timing, Targeting 13 degrees with pump gas is not good.

Like many folks who end up FBO, my guess is you'll keep pushing for more power. You've come this far, may as well up the octane and really take advantage on the tuning side.

Hi guys,

I'm like a majority of the other guys here with N55's. I really would love to see Cobb AP V3 working for N55 2012+ model engines. I would instantly buy one, followed by a Cobb Intercooler and a Cobb PTF E-Tune.

I do not believe they have plans for the 2012+ N55 DME. The tables are just too much work. Maybe someone from Cobb will step in, I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time

Hey can I get some input on a timing correction in Cyl 2 & 6 on this data log:

http://www.datazap.me/u/10000111/cus...16-17-18-19-22

I'm trying to add some timing to my map and I need to know how and where I can add it at...

What changed on the '12/'13's in the DME that makes them so much harder to code for?

Dinan didn't seem to have an issue getting tunes out for the '12 and '13 (although obviously they have Bavarian 'friends').

I'm one that is waiting on Cobb to come out with tunes for the 12/13; I thought they were working on it? I'd prefer to go Cobb over Dinan if that becomes an option.

I don’t know specifics, but very likely the ROMs are very well encrypted, and getting to the bare bones BIN files is a pain in the ass. It took Cobb quite a while to access the full MSD-80/81 DMEs.

Dinan has access to the uncoded BIN file, courtesy of Siemens/BMW I would assume.

Finally gave in and ordered Cobb AccessPort 3 for my 2011 135i. Hooked AP3 to my computer to get latest firmware, and then installed on my car, with recently got refreshed with latest ECU version. Worked like a charm.

I experimented with Stage 1 aggressive, and stage 1 FMIC agressive, even though I have no bolt ons. Access to 94 Octane gasoline is easy where I live. Weather is near freezing over here in Quebec, Canada, and I monitored the oil and water temp closely, while I gave the FMIC map a go. Did not notice a big difference over standard aggressive map.

I logged a third gear pull from 2500-5500 RPM, and displayed on virtual dyno software. Im getting 330WHP and 350ft-lbs torque. I can really feal the extra kick, and the car is dangerous in 1st and 2nd gear now (on cold extreme performance tires). It pulls hard in all gears, even noticeable in 6th gear.

Dealer installed rom updates

When the dealer reflashes your ecu with latest software, does that automatically update the rom? Or is the rom update, sometimes required for accessport installation, another separate procedure?

thanks.

Tried the new V2.00 maps on my N55 135i a couple of minutes ago. Pulled a few WOT 3rd gear logs, and here is the best one I got with "Stage 1 + FMIC Agressive" map, with zero bolt-ons and outside air temperature just at the freezing mark (32F/0C):

If the graph from virtual dyno is acurate, I made 355WHP and 373lb-ft of torque ...

I scrolled through the CSV file, and turbo boost reaches 11.2 PSI from 2500 to 5000 RPM, with the V2.00 map (1st graph). With the V1.00 map, I reached 12.5 PSI, but produced less HP + torque (2nd graph). Is this normal behavior?

v2.00 stage 1 + FMIC aggressive map

v1.00 stage 1 + FMIC aggressive map

v2.00 versus v1.00 stage 1 + FMIC aggressive maps

Just took a look at n55 stage 2+ map notes and it says aftermarket intake is required. Is that true? Based on the zillion intake posts, I thought the consensus is the stock intake is adequate with fbo. Would a drop in filter be adequate for the 2+ map? Anyone have any input or experience?

Look you aren’t going to grenade anything running the stock box FBO. But I’d be willing to bet you’ll need more duty cycle to meet equivalent boost targets. At this point there are some gains to be had with an intake, just get a simple BMS filter and that’s that.
