Dealership wants to update the software on my 1er

So my battery is on it's last legs and bmw has no problem replacing it because its apparently a problem with the software on the car. But they said it would need to be updated to their latest software.

This makes me feel very iffy on wether or not I want to do it.

I've heard alot of horror stories about how the shifting doesn't feel the same and we lose the pops in the exhaust after upgrading it.

Can anyone chime in on this? Thanks

This is sadly true my friend. I had it done and can say along with many other here that it will definitely change the whole dynamic of the tranny feel. Shifts feel MUCH smoother less abrupt and hard. And will not lag or lurch forward like the dct is known for doing. The car drives smoother is general and the exhaust overrun/crackle pops are almost all gone unless under HEAVY throttle and hopefully have an aftermarket exhaust.

Depends on which software they are updating. I doubt they have to update the transmission to change your battery.

From my experience I had to tell the dealer there was an SB for the DCT. Then again, I had to explain what ppk1 was to them as well. Unless BMW says it's mandatory, I doubt they'll put the DCT SB in.

If you're not having problems, don't do it. I finally got the burble back with PPK1.

I did the update few months ago and it does feel different compared to before. It shifts smoother and does not lurch forward as it before. My update was to eliminate the electrical glitch and flutter in the rpm. Up until now, all of those problems are gone.

At first the exhaust burble was almost gone to what I hear even with the windows down but after few hundred miles, it goes back like before and still shifts smoother than before. I think it might be the update trying to settle with every electric and software of the car but I have aftermarket axle back exhaust that might help the burble issue.

Just my 2 cents.
