O'Fest 2012 - Mid Ohio - Be There!?

I just got the final racers packet emailed to me and I know a few 1Mers are going to be at the event but I thought I'd start a thread so we can try to get together. I'm not bringing my 1 but will be at the track (racing) Thursday - Sunday.

Last year at Barber there were quite a few 1M's so hopefully this year will have even better attendance by the wide fendered - short wheel base - angry bull-dog folks.

I already left and am in Michigan (south haven) for the night. Rolling into Columbus on Sunday night after dinner on Saturday at Michael Simon's Lola (Cleveland) and Sunday on the roller coasters at Cedar Point. Still have not had a chance to get the car at the track or ax, but will be instructing at Mid O on Thursday and ax on Friday.

We will all need to do a meet up and have Jon Van Worden take some family photos.

Very cool! If possible, I'd like to passenger on track with one of you guys. I've got very limited practice time before I qualify and a few laps would be much appreciated.

I didn't intend this when I started the thread but if anyone with a 1M is going to O'Fest and they want to buy an AFE intake and/or ER Chargepipe PM me. I can bring them and the price is right. They are both complete and in the original box. (No missing parts)
Errrrr.

Edit: How far is the Auto-X from the track?
Are you guys RSVP'd for KC's Saturday night?

I'll be staying at the Quality Inn in Bellville and expect to be instructing on track Thurs, Fri and Sat.

Look forward to getting together with you

I'm staying at the Fairfield Inn in Mansfield. I think it's 1 exit north of you. Thursday-Sunday for me as well. It's crazy to think it's been a year since you and your "M1" were at Barber.

Last week I was seriously tempted to go, but after seeing where the autocross was going to be held I decided not to go. Yes, I know I am an autocross snob, but small lots/sites are not fun. Good luck folks!

Ken Orgeron did the same.

Looks like they had a lot cancellation at the last minute and had to do the best they could.

I'm at the travelodge 1 exit up from the quality inn. Quality is a nice place but this little hole in the wall has a fridge and wifi too for cheap.

I used to auto-x and small lots were always frustrating to me as well. 1st gear was too high and 2nd too low. At least the 1M is versatile with it's low end torque. Off topic but many years ago (around 1994) we used the back straight at Sebring to auto-x and saw around 110 mph thanks to the designer! An SCCA steward caught wind of it mid-day and a couple officials caught hell over it. At the next event they said, "We hope you enjoyed that because it will never happen again."

I'm not overly thrilled with small autocross setups either. Back in the 80's (does that make me old?) we used to run on the current nationals site in Lincoln and 100 mph + runs we're very common, even in a CRX. If you can't get to third gear, it is not that fun.

Sounds like you guys are all mostly at the track this week. I'm staying at the host hotel and only out there for some of the stuff. My wife would kill me if I was at the track that much this week.

If you are in the paddock Thursday - Sunday look for a silver e36 #74 and ask for Dan. Yes, if you were auto-xing in the 80's you are old. My first was is 91 so I'm not old, at all.

Yeah, and I'm now at 24,000 miles and 50+ track days.

BTW, Woody Hair and I are sharing garage #27.

Look forward to seeing you.

I'll make sure to stop by and try today hi to all of you. I will be there on Thursday for sure and may stop out on Wednesday also to get registered.

Dan, I saw your car last year, but never saw anyone around it, and quickly met Neil just before the Friday dinner. As for Mark, I am already tired of him ;-)

Should be in Columbus in just a few hours so everyone drive safe and we will see you soon.

I did my first autocross in 1984. Fook I'm old.

100 mph is too much for a novice autocross person. In the old days it was called Solo 1 and required more safety equipement than a stock/as delivered car. I wouldn't be comfortable in a car w/out safety stuff at those speeds.

I posted somewhere else the Nationals course from in-car (not me). They were very good courses.

I'll see you guys tomorrow. Packing up my stuff tonight and on the road (trailering race car) before 6am. With 13K miles on my car (and the fact it's not moving these days) means I'll have a very low mileage 1M!

50+ track days? Neil, you really need to seek help for your addiction.

Course was pretty tight with a lot if gravel off line. FTD was 26.xxx seconds, set by a Z06 on A6s. Fastest BMW was an E30 on 285s at 27.5xx. We got 8 runs, 4 in the morning, 4 in the afternoon. Hopefully the rain will stay away tomorrow.

yeah, but it feels so good...

Don't know if you did this evening's practice, but come on by tomorrow if you want to go out with me during one of the instructors' sessions.

I'm in garage #27.

Neil,
I ran into a ton of people I haven't seen in a long time tonight and didn't get by your garage. I'll be at the track around 9 - 9:30 tomorrow so I'll come by first thing. Racers have a late start on the schedule so I have a lot of spare time.

Today is the M Cars. Please update us with how the 1Ms did.

A Z06 is great bang for the buck, and being on Hoosiers goes without saying. I just looked up Bryan's results this year and he seems to be a pretty good driver. 13th at Nationals. about three seconds off the lead. A Stock would have been another three seconds off of him (where the 1M runs) and I would have been another three or so back.
