4 wheel drive is always great initially for the grip. My old Jeep SRt was a beast 0-60, wet or dry. There is a good weight difference. I know my 135 felt so much faster than all of the 335's I was given as a loaner vehicle. Especially now with the little PPK1 on it. However, I do miss the traction of AWD especially in the winter. If it was an option on the 135 Vert, I would have went with it.

Well the testing will have to wait. Had some rough idle/hunting rpm on the 335. Goes in, your fuel injectors 1 2 and 3 are leaking. Replaced them, coded them etc.. get the car back, runs like total SH!T. I think they either broke something else or the dreaded bad software n55 got also applies to n54... the car sounds like hell, sucks about 2x the fuel it used to, lags on accel and, this was my favorite symptom, downshifting into a turn (select 2nd, "try" to match rev, declutch...) going 20-25 in the turn, the car bogged and almost stalled, I had to downshift into 1st to keep it alive. WTF!?
Going back tomorrow to see what's up. But, as a side effect: My 1 is now FASTER! LOL |

Yup, you got the "new" SW that neuters the performance and throttle response. They can not load your old SW now. Only solution will be to get the PPK1 or some other tune. Sorry dude. This is criminal what BMW is doing to our beloved N54/N55's. |

What proof do you have of this "dreaded sw" that neuters performance? I work at a dealership and the shop forman and service managers roll their eyes and laugh at people who claim their cars lost power after software updates.
p.s. I have an n55 with the latest software and my car kept dead even with a piece-together supercharged e46 M3 from 20-80mph. My car had no tune at the time. Granted, he installed meth and got me by 2+ cars. This all before I put my tune on. Haven't had a chance to race him since.

Actually, I'm going to walk to the shop right now and ask the shop forman and the service manager if this "power neutering" software actually exists.
Come to think of it, my car just had its software updated to fix another issue and it does feel slow, but probably cuz I have gotten used to my tune and had to take it out for the service.

Both N54 and N55 have this problem after a SW update. Basically you have to press down on the gas pedal at least HALF WAY when before(pre SW update) you only needed to press 1/4 opening of the throttle. Also the engine runs smoother and quieter and does not crackle and gurgle on decell in gear. I suppose there is no good reason why BMW NA is handing out PPK1's like m&m's to people who complain after an SW update - Hungh? Perhaps your shop foreman has not seen this issue before!? Here are just a few people who are imagining it... Has anyone contacted BMW regarding 29.2 and lag? http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...7#post11719367 Power loss after DME Reprogram on N55 2011 135i http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...ghlight=update Important Update - Power loss after DME Reprogram on N55 2011 135i http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...ghlight=update Latest BMW OEM software Update - Sentiments? http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...ghlight=update |

It is not LEGAL for BMW to alter their vehicles in any fashion that affects performance. They CANNOT LEGALY make a car slower, after advertising a car to be a specific way. The only thing they can legally change are emmissions control stuff. Just because people's butt dyno's say their car is all of a sudden slower, and get together on a forum, doesn't mean its true. Really, you can believe whatever you want. I'm just telling you what I know, being connected to the BMW world, including specialists from BMW Corporate that come in to work on special cases.
As far as the lag that people were talking about, there were instances of half second delays that could be "considered lag" because a software update was released to fix wastegate rattle and kept tension on the wastegate a little longer. People complained, BMW reversed it with another software update. No need to get butthurt with me. I just decided to use my resources and see what I can dig up about it from people who work for BMW and work on BMW's 12 hours a day, and have constant contact with BMW Corporate. I went through your links btw, and I see some allegations, but... I still see no proof. Only of an admission to the slight delay as a result to the wastegate fix which they have since reversed because of complaints. There have been mentions of peopel feeling the power loss on the forums, yes. But you can't imagine how many people come into service saying "well, i read on the forums such-n-such and I think my car has this problem too!" I'm telling you what I can dig up on the issue as best of my abilities and with the people around me, doesn't neccesarily mean I'm right or wrong. I just wanted to give everyone another perspective on the issue.

It's not legality involved here, they are not neutering the car for performance sakes, if you read enough on the issue, they are doing it to quiet down the DI system (less ticking) and some other nonsense. The issue stems from an incorrect wastegate program in the last release and as best as all can tell, there is no fix as of yet.
To the rest of the gang, I don't know on the software load front, I think it's more than that. This morning when taking the car into the dealer, got the 1/2 engine power, limp-home warning 1 mile from dealer! WOOT! (never thought I'd be excited to see that screen). We'll see. |

Mainly happening with n55, but n54 reported as well.
On the 335, primary cat exploded internally and spewed the honeycomb material down-wind, blocking the exhaust. That would explain it. They are on day 2 of cleaning it out. Must have been quite the BOOM in there. |
