Angel Eyes (AE) recommendation? H8

Hey Fellas,
Just want to preface this, total newbie to ANY sort of modding; but did some reading & research on the Forums

One of my HID Xenons (Passenger side AUS) on my E82 MY09 died recently and I managed to pick up Phillips X-tremevision Plus 150% (4800k, Purple box one, D1S) for (I think) an awesome price at AUD$172 for the pair.

Figured I might as well venture into changing the AE too and finally get rid of the stock yellow Daytime running lamps (DRLs)

Do you guys have the latest recommendations for updating the AE's?

Looking for something:
  • AUS road legal
  • Pretty much plug & play (no cutting/drilling/soldering, but happy to add some double sided 3M tape to stick on a ballast though )
  • Slightly more Blue tinge (Rice! haha) colored, compared to the Xenons above. (so real ~5500/6000k?)

Read some old posts and they mentioned some budget (but good bang for buck) straight halogen replacements:
  • GP Thunder "7500k"
  • GP Thunder "8500k"
  • MTEC Super White "4350k" (Maybe not "blue" enough)
  • MTEC Cosmos Blue "4750k" (one of the websites say 'Product not approved on open roads'... does this count for AE/DRLs ??)
  • PIAA Precious White "4800k"
  • PIAA Hyper Arros "5000k"
  • Something a bit more 'premium' from Osram or Phillips?

Or is it worth looking into some budget or even pricier LEDs options?
  • MTEC (6000k)
  • LUX (LUX H8 V6 Adjustable vs LUX H8 189)

Love to hear your thoughts!

PS> Looking forward to struggling with the cover (hoses in the way and the b1tch clip?) and cutting my hands in those tight spaces

I am not sure what is road legal in AUS, but I purchased these for mine in the US. I got mine in red. So far, no issues.

Appreciate the reply bro.
So LED replacements are generally the go now?

I ended up purchasing 2x H8's:
  • GP Thunder 8500k (arrived, attached - saw 2x different boxes online; unsure if region specific or if it was Gen1 vs Gen2)
  • PIAA Hyper Arros 5000k (due mid next week)

I'll install one on each side and try to upload some photos!

PS> Still running on the one stock Xenon atm... figured I might do it in one hit (once the PIAA's arrive)

Anything over 5k will be less visible.

If you want visible blue rings you'll need real LED rings which require opening your housings and modifying the assembly itself.

Never understood the gravitation towards blue lights but to each their own I guess.

So I finally did it... the darn air filter box was in the way on the passenger side... it was either that or the headlight unit needed to come off. (limited tools )

Below are the photos of GP Thunder vs PIAA...

I know everyone has prolly moved onto LEDs and whatnot... but here's my 2 cents:
- GP Thunders 8500k: the 2x AE seem to "match" more
- PIAA Hyper Arros 5k: didn't appear to be as "dull", but the inner AE was "more white"

The photo doesn't do it justice, but def an upgrade overall.
(left = PIAA and right = stock)
Next on the list:
  • *** DONE - Blacked kidney grille (dual slat)
  • *** DONE - Ballast change (Xenon fixed
  • *** DONE - LED 6k fogs
  • *** DONE - LED interior lights to be updated
  • LED dynamic side marker
  • Full splitter kit (FlowDesigns Australia)
  • *** DONE - CF spoiler
  • CF diffuser (M-Tech style with 2fins)
  • Blackline Taillights - 63212225282
  • *** DONE - Exhaust tone update, muffler delete
  • Some tuning, Stage1
