Performance Steering Wheel

Has anyone received or actully installed the BMW Perfomrance steering wheel yet? I just bought it and i will receive it on Monday July 14th. A couple questions:

I have seen the instructions, but has anyone done it? How hard is it?

Is this something you would have a dealer install?

I was quoted $350 to install it at my dealer, but i am tempted to just do it myslef if possible.

Thanks in advance

The steering wheel is on my short list. Since install involves unhooking the airbag, Ill be having a dealer do it. I am good with a wrench but I don't trust myself with explosive safety devices... I have an unfortunate knack for causing explosions.

My dealer quoted me a lot less than that, but I have a good relationship there.

I don't think it is actually the changing of the wheel they are going to charge this big $$$$ for.
I think you will find on the cost and time sheets and steering wheel change is listed as 30 mins.
The big think I expect is the software upgrade to run the wheel.
As I understand these up load can take some some + 2 hours.

ANyhow I would like one too, but I doubt it will be compatible with a hatch < 06.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing photos or video of someones fitted and functional

I confirmed that there is no software update required at all. There are a coupple wires you have to plug in to the wire harness, but no software update.

I do not actually know, but I am super suprised there is no software upgrade for the wheel.
Doesn't it have a G meter, Lap Time counter among other things that are not originally supplied with the car?
If this is the case man that is some big $$$ for a 1/2 hour job, I think it cost me $40 AUD to get the wheel changed on the mini for a new JCW one.
If you don't want to pay, I am sure there is a DIY instructions on the web.

Good luck and photos when you have it, please!

I have the instructions to install that wheel, and it all just plugs into the wiring harness that is already installed in that car. I just confirmed again with the BMW dealer i am getting it installed at that their is no need for a software update.

I am getting it installed on Tuesday and the dealer is going to do it for $190.
