Earthquake SWS-8 or Logic 7 Underseat Subs?
Hey guys,
I wanna upgrade the under-seat sub in my car and i thought i'd try this on my own - what a big mistake haha. I bought 2 really nice Kenwood 8" Shallow subs (600 watts Peak power and 150W RMS) but they're too big :'( I also have a nice JL Audio XD2002 2 channel amp that would be powering both the under seat subs. So what do people recommend? I'm leaning towards the logic 7 Sub's just because it will fit nicely under the seats - plus i think it should sound good with the JL Amp (Or am i wrong?) Or Should i ditch that and go for the earthquakes? |

I can tell you that my Logic 7 mids (subs) will be staying in place after having recently done the MusicarNW sub kit - I opted for the larger amp that is also being used to bandpass and amplify both the underseat mids. They were good before, but now that they are just doing ~ 70Hz and above they are fantastic.
You didn't mention what setup you currently have in the car, that might change things. Maybe find some used (but not blown of course) Logic 7's *if* you can get them for cheap and add a sub at the same time? Need to know what kind of music you listen to, too. That may make a difference on recommendations. Last edited by tracer bullet; 07-04-2015 at 08:34 AM.. |

My car has the base system. Just last week I did the Alpine retrofit so I've got an amp for the front left and right speakers.
I mostly listen to anything that's not metal, some dance, some electronic (not techno), rock etc. Brand new logic 7s are costing me about 150 euros is that worth it? |

I have and have run both SWS subs and the Logic 7 Mids. I am running the Logic 7's and most likely will never use my SWS subs again. Logic 7's sound much better and need less power but will take more power than the SWS's can take.

Are the logic 7s being run with an aftermarket or factory amp?

Sound great with either. I have run them with stock business deck, Professional deck, Fosgate PBR 300x2, JBL MS8, and now with alpine retrofit amp. They are worth the cost.

There you go, nice. Amp it (with a good signal!) and I think you'll be pleased. It won't be the best thing ever but for $300 (+ the amp) it'l be more than worth the cost.
If you end up wanting a little more bass, sub of course is the next option. I'll take this opportunity to make sure you know about setting crossover points, gains, etc. That'll help a lot as well - properly using what you have. |

Nice! Now look for a JBL MS-8 to run it!

I was trying to stay away from the sub just because the boot in the e87 is not that large... hope this works out well. |

It arrived to today and got it installed - they sound so good running off the JL Amp. I tested it running off the alpine amp just for comparison but with the JL its just got so much more punch.

Excellent. I moved mine from the stock HK system (Logic 7) amp to a JL amp, that extra power alone (even when they were not bandpassed) made them sound a lot better. They really are a capable speaker.
