Run-flats: $800 for ONE tire!
While my car was in the body shop getting the fog light and bumper fixed it picked up a screw in the sidewall of one tire. The body shop refused to cover it since the screw was for wood and not metal. Apparently they don't use wood screws. So I went about about looking for a tire shop.
If you live in Vancouver, BC good luck finding a tire shop that does run flats. Cost to one shop was $600, but they had no equipment to install it and they never called me back on availability. So I no choice but to take the car to the dealership. Since it was sidewall damage, the tire needed to be replaced. The total cost was $800 after taxes and installation. Only 6000km on the car. When the next one goes or when they need to be replaced, I'm either going to take a knife to all of them and say it was vandalism, or I'm just getting all non-run flats. Seriously, $800 for a single tire is excessive. |

You got ripped off.
Those tires are under $400 at Tire Rack, and it shouldn't take any special equipment to install. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/CompareTireResults.jsp?search=true&pagelen=20&page num=1&pagemark=1&filterType=oe&skipOver=true&vehic leSearch=true&startIndex=0&autoYear=2008&minLoad=S &rearWidth=245%2F&frontDiameter=18&skipOver=true&f rontWidth=215%2F&frontRatio=40&rearDiameter=18&rea rSortCode=53950&autoMake=BMW&autoModClar=&minSpeed Rating=H&frontSortCode=53400&autoModel=135i+Coupe& rearRatio=35&filterType=oe&speed_rating=H&speed_ra ting=V&speed_rating=Z&speed_rating=W&speed_rating= Y&speed_rating=(Y)&RunFlat=All&loadRank=2 |

I have tire insurance. It would have cost me a little over $500 if I had paid for the tire. I assume the rim had zero damage?
So I got a new tire and paid zero!!!!! How the hell did they jack it up to $800? I guess you did not get a quote be4 they fixed it? A good lesson for those out there...ask and maybe get it in writing be4 you agree to any work. Even at the dealership! EspressoBoy Hmmm I don't know if it will help you... can you pm me with the details. I don't mind scanning in my page with the tire and maybe you can show them my page, and just tell them you have a buddy in Toronto...how can they add another $300???? something is not right... Oh btw mistakes happen all the time, it could be just human error. You must speak up or just pay... it is up to you. |

I was quoted $600 to replace a runflat with the dealer here - $600USD = $742USD, so that's not too far off.
Definitely a rip either way, though. Order from Tire Rack and have them mounted at an independent shop. |

The tire insurance I got covers any tire I put on the car for 5 years from the date of purchase. This is what I was told. Yet to test it with a tire from tirerack.com (winters)
Too bad I didn't order in the summer, I got it half way though, when it was around 92 cents on the dollar. With our crazy government issues, our dollar is going to go to 70 cents or less... you just watch. It's not going to go up unless oil goes way up, and that's not happening right now... so if you need to order and tirerack is the solution...do it now... my 2 cents... EspressoBoy |

Volco tires will sell for almost as cheap as it would cost you to have them shipped from Tire Rack and they have no problem with run flats.
I had the OEM run flat Contis replaced on my Mini Cooper by Volco last week and they were within $30 of what it would have cost from the States (after shipping) and I still would have had to pay to have the U.S. tires installed. BTW, Mini Yaletown was quoting almost $750 per tire.

I have this insurance for 5 years as well. Paid $900 for it when I bought the car. I was told that any tire or rim that is on the car is covered, even winters.

It's just BMW's way of punishing you for actually sticking with Runflats..you should buy some real tires..

Mind you the proof is always in the pudden... Lets see when I go in with destroyed rims and all 4 tires... Kidding...for sure.. I am not going to risk my life for new tires! I was told that it didn't matter where I purchased them either... again we shall see if their word is good.... time will tell EspressoBoy |

If you are going to keep the runflats for awhile you might consider buying a whole set from someone in the 'for sale' area. I paid $1200 USD for tires with 2500 miles on them and the OEM wheels (which I'm using with Blizzaks for winter) which seems to be a pretty typical deal.
