Key fob

Just bought this new to me 2013 128i at a local dealership and they promised me another key. As you probably can guess, No Key.
So my question is where should I best acquire a new one and get it programmed without spending a fortune.
Also another question is how do I know if i have Comfort Access
Thank you

For Comfort Access - will the car start with the key not in the ignition slot? If yes, you have it, if no, you don't. Also look for the ridges on door handles, and CA keys have a replaceable battery, non-CA keys do not.

Non-CA keys are rather cheaper than CA keys, but your best bet for ordering one is probably one of the discount online BMW dealers. IIRC, non-CA keys don't need dealer programing but CA keys do. I have no doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Always get dealer promises in writing - I got similarly boned when I bought my Fiat Spider. And Fiat keys make BMW keys seem cheap, as it turns out.

I could be wrong as well but I thought all keys needed dealer programming.

Once you price one, you'll go back to the dealership where you bought it and make them get one for you!!

My car does not start without the key inserted but I do have the ridges on the door handles and they don't seem to work either.
Any recommendations on a good after market online dealer for a keyfob/key.

Another question is... when I activate the bluetooth via the steering wheel buttons when i push the button with the phone picture I automatically call the last person I talked to on there. Is this common do i just activate phone calls by voice command button

Popps, do you have idrive/nav? When I push the button on the steering wheel, idrive pops up on the screen to the last calls I made in order. Then I can use the idrive controller to option last call, received call, phone book , etc

Run your vin through one of the vin decoders like https://www.mdecoder.com. It will list all of the features & options.

Also this thread might help

The keys come direct from Germany already programmed for the car.

Ok, but what if you lost your key fob and only had one and needed to order a spare from the dealer. Would it still come from Germany, or would your dealer just program a new one for you?

Comes from Germany, we can't do anything at the dealer. The CAS is preprogrammed with 10 specific codes when the car is built. BMW knows those 10 codes. Your car came with two keys already coded, so that leaves 8. When you order a new key, BMW programs a new key with one of the remaining 8 codes and ships it. If you ever have to replace more than 8 keys, the CAS has to be replaced. We can't add new codes to the CAS.

It is all very high security, not like a Toyota/Lexus.

Keys come directly from regional parts depots at BMW NA. Usually overnight if ordered early enough in the day. Requirements from BMW are in-person order with valid ID and proof of ownership.

If your comfort-access doesn't work with a c/a key, check the battery in the fob.

I guess they are able to do it within the US. Here in Canada they still come from Germany overnight air express.
