LOL

Let us know how the roof goes, I'm still debating doing the DiNoc up there on mine. Doesn't that felt area around the sunroof work as a noise canceller or water seal or something?

My first experience was wrapping my interior pieces with 3M di-noc. Then I watched a bunch of videos on youtube, read some articles, and saw a thread about a guy wrapping his 335i sedan in matte black. From there I just ordered material, found other tools I needed locally, and went to work. I have definitely learned a lot as I go, and it is just starting to get easier. I wasted a lot of material in the process though, so I'm most likely going to have to order some more.

I'm still tossing around the idea of doing the roof in 3M di-noc carbon fiber and then going over that with a clear vinyl to make it look like clear coated carbon fiber. For some reason, no one sells a 2x2 weave pattern wet-look carbon fiber vinyl.

Ok NOW I think you're 50% done, lol. How hard was the rear quarter and top pillar?

Oh I'd be interested in the clear vinyl as I have the 3M di-noc roof wrapped but would prefer gloss over the matte finish.

Surprisingly, the rear quarter/top pillar was fairly easy. It just takes a huge piece of vinyl, about 10 feet X 5 feet, to do it in one section with no seams. I removed the rear tail light as well as the roof rack/roof seam cover, and kept the trunk, hood, and drivers door open. I started in the rear just above the tail light and worked my way forward. The hardest part is all the finish work involved to make it look nice and neat. There is a lot of trimming and tucking on this section of the car... also, don't vinyl a car outside on a windy day lol

I can't remember if I went over this or not, but the front bumper is extremely difficult... so I'm going to remove it and give it to a professional to handle.

Um... Well, the vinyl is so thin and pliable that as soon as it is near the surface it kind of just sucks right to it, including any imperfections on or in the paint. The best thing to do would be to clay bar the car and then do a clear coat repair via wet sanding on anything major. I'm not sure if they make anything that would temporarily fill in chips while the vinyl is on, but that would be an option as well. That way on the surface of the vinyl it would be smooth and hide the imperfection.

Just got my windows tinted darker. Still 30% on the sides, went to 20% on the back and small side windows, went 50% on the front, and when the front cures i'm adding a 20% 8-inch sun strip across the top. Will take pictures soon.

I've talked about doing this before! You gotta let us know if it was all worth it in the end and what the total costs of materials came out to so we can see just how much money it saves you. Great work though! I admire you taking this project on!

So... sorry for the crappy night time iphone pix

Roof, done. Handles, done. Passenger quarter panel, done. Out of vinyl

I still have the front and rear bumper to do. The hood is carbon fiber, so not a big deal to leave it exposed for the time being, but eventually I want to wrap that too. I have to buy some more material, because I wasted a bit while going through some learning experiences. The material comes from Canada, so it takes a while. I don't think it will be complete by the time I go to Heartland Raceway, but I think it will still draw some attention.

Happy Memorial Day :)

This was a good weekend. I was able to finish the rear bumper, which I had to do in two pieces, but can't really see the seam. I did the passenger quarter panel and pillar. I finished the roof rack trim pieces and door handles. I'm also experimenting with the hood to see if I like it like this. I think I will eventually do the whole thing and leave the CF around the vents exposed. I have to order more vinyl. 100 feet would have been enough, but I wasted roughly 35-40 feet of vinyl with mistakes that in hindsight I could have fixed, knowing what I know now. I still don't think I can tackle the front bumper, so that will still get done by a professional I know.
