Hi :-) from Gold Coast

Hi all, I'm Jamie.

Just purchased an 07 120i M Sport, always found forums helpful so I have stopped by to see what all the fuss is about!! Im located on the Gold Coast.

I went to a local Eurotune and Eurotec mechanic today to see for servicing prices for my car. They say around $250 for minor services and $450 for majors, does this sound about right?

Thanks
Jamie.

Gday Jamie. You have picked the right guy. Glenn at Eurotune knows his BMWs as you can probably tell from his workshop. He has raced them for years. Oil change for my car is around $280 at Eurotune and $300+ at Lyntons.

Thanks guys, Gazz, you obviously take your car to Eurotue...the one down at Lemana lane off Christine Ave?
I have always chose to do my oil in the past at about 10K, and to be honest this is my first BMW and I near fell over when I read the service logs...one oil change was pushed out to 20-25k. Having said that, these cars are supposedly self learning and adapting and tell you when to service the oil.

What service intervals are some of you guys going with?
Also to note, my car comes with another 3 years of BMW extended warranty ( not just the dealer-any BMW) are these worth the paper they are written on?

Thanks again
Jamie.

Yes it's the Lemana lane Eurotune. Like you Jamie I used to change my oil mid way between scheduled changes plus the scheduled change. I still do this with my 335i because it's a turbo in Qld's hot conditions. Having said all that though, the new oils are very good. Yes, it is expensive for an oil change if you don't do it yourself but have you seen the price of Mobil 1 these days? Yikes. Talk to Glenn at Eurotune re your situation. He will even let you know if it's a DIY proposition. Just bear in mind that by the time you buy the oil, the filter, the drain plug washer and dispose of the old oil it may not be that much of a saving. And don't forget that the in car computer oil service log has to be reset. When Glenn does my oil he also does a quick system check for any fault codes etc. I have the extended warranty on mine mainly as a resale bonus as I'm selling it to make way for a 1M. Don't know how effective the warranty is until it's tested.

Thanks for that, yes I agree, the turbo heat reduces oil life, another point that I think was overlooked by BMW in some of their diesel range is the quality of our diesel here, its filthy, at 100k in Europe diesel fuel filters are clean, though here they are generally a throw away..add this crap to the engine oil, and you have another reason to change the oil earlier.

I think what you're saying holds credit, probably $15 for a filter, $90 for oil, then say 0.75-1 Hr of labour, and we simply dont have the electrical gear to search for fault codes.

Hi Jamie.
Most won't admit this online, but I think you'll find that most of us work in the adult entertainment industry.

Hahaha, @ Tim...
Like I said earlier, this is my first BMW and I have only picked this car up two days ago.

I am impressed with how solid it is, Im not overly impressed with the run flats, comfort wise, they don't seem too bad, however , when you really push the car, it almost feels like they're too lazy to react. A heavier tyre increases the unsprung weight, which kills handling, I wonder how non RFT's will feel..... to be honest, I'll probably opt for them in the future.

My wife had that car for a couple of years, sweet spot is around 3.5-4k. Never tried non-rft on that car as it's always safety first for the other half, but on my coupe they run fantastic. Suspension do behave better than the coupes. Play with the tire pressures a bit first. You let it slips and slide a bit more when I am trying to have fun, and it is easy with that torque under the bonnet.

you sure about that? Diesel standards in Australia underwent a very significant revision a few years ago - it's why BMW suddenly started bringing in all the Diesel models they'd never imported before.

No I dont have anything substantial to reference what Im saying... It just came about as word of mouth though from 3 different Euro mechanics, they say they keep having to do the filters more often, and each time they say they're filthy.

I did notice on the fuel cap of an i30 the other day that it said only fill with diesel compliant with Euro spec..so maybe they have raised the bar a bit here?

sulphur levels in Australian diesel have dropped from 500ppm, to 50, to 10ppm, which is the same as the Euro V standard.
