Lightbulb Is it safe giving credit card details to dealer?

Guys, so I decided to put a down payment for the car just to secure the car. It is an out of state car and I'm currently away from USA. So the dealer asked me to pay the down payment using a credit card and he asked me about the details of my credit card such as card number, security code, etc.

Is it safe to provide him with such important information? What should I do? This is my first time buying a car out of state.

Really appreciate any comments and opinion. Thanks!

I put a dwn payment on my car with a cc while out of the country. As long as they are an official legit dealer you should be fine. They wouldn't pull anything fishy. It'd b to easy to nail them. However if it makes you feel better you can fax an agreement go sign that they are only allowed to charge a specified amount. The dealer I'm workin with sent me an authorization for to sign specifying the amount they were going to charge 1 time transaction on this date an I signed an faxed bak.

The great thing about credit cards is you're not responsible for unauthorized charges.

Now a debit card that looks like a credit card... If someone jacks those numbers and charges start draining your bank account, you're in for some hurt.

I used a credit card for the deposit so I could get the miles. ;-)

It is not safe to give card number at phone or email and specially never give security number at phone or email.
You can give card number and expire date but be very sure who you give those.

If random caller ask your card details at phone do you give card details. ???

This is very good but omg what job you have to do when you have to request correction.

I give my cc info to anyone who asks...email especially; if you get unauthorized charges just dispute it.
