A stock 1M does not belong to that select group "soundwise". Just my humble opinion of course. But that's the one major thing missing in 1M and those three M3s (CSL, CRT and GTS) are on a whole different league of super-and natural-sounding vehicles that I doubt we will ever hear again from a future BMW.
On any other dimension, I believe a 1M earns its place among them and I would still pick it over any other if it would be a one-vehicle-to-pick-only kind of a choice. My heart goes like this (JUST SOUND): CRT>CSL>GTS.........>1M. Car: 1M>CSL>CRT>GTS.

It has to read as E90 M3 CRT, as it was only the sedan.

I would like to hear all cars throughout the rev range. I think the 1M sounds great down low (up to approximately 4k RPM) and is no match for the M3s at higher RPMs. These clips are at the track and at higher revs.

Good point, that I agree. We can regard cold start sound also in that manner, wonderful.

I'll take a CRT any day! The best sound, light(relatively) and the front and rear seats are (drool).....! The 1M would be a better comparison if you fit it with some sort of upgraded intake/exhaust like all the others in the comparison. The fact that the 1M is included speaks volumes given its company!

For me, the M3 CSL has definitely the best sound, ever: not only a racy exhaust sound, but also a fabulous intake melody.

+1... This video only leaves me wondering how they could ever consider getting rid of the v8's. Also makes me glad the M4's will be coming out, should help drop the e92 price range down (save maybe the GTS haha)
