Didn't qualify for an oil change...
I'm so used to changing my oil every 3,000-5,000 miles.
I took it in to dealer to get serviced and they said I don't qualify. Yet. Is this detrimental to the engine? I've heard horror stories of imploding engines. Someone please give me peace of mind. 2012 E82 128i N51 SULEV Thanks in advance... |

Peace of Mind
BMW will only pay about once a year. Yes that's too long but your changes are far too often. Probably every 8000 to 10,000 miles unless you're doing a lot of short drives, then twice a year (Spring & Fall).

Search for the DIY and do your own between the free ones. Good luck!

I do my own yes. Takes an hour including drip time. 15 mins of actual work. No way I would pay someone $200 for that.

I do mine every 5k miles since I first got the car. I take my car to the dealer for both the "annual" free oil change and the ones in between. I use a coupon (value service or something like that) I find online costing my 80 bucks for the whole thing done. Not too bad IMO.
"annual" is not quite annual seeing how the oil change interval on the computer is more like 13 months than 12 or 12000 miles instead of 10000. My service interval was set when I last took it in for service to expect me to drive 20 months before my next service. Good thing the mileage interval is 12k. Either someone fudged up with the reset or I'm being told to drive my car harder? If the problem is the latter, problem solved Once all my free maintenance is over, I'll do my own oil (and everything else that I can do and what I'm willing to learn) unless...I find more of those coupons. |

Honestly? It's a 2. Really easy. Oil filter housing cap o ring can be bitchy sometimes. Draining the oil is one bolt. Only thing easier is changing a wheel.

Interesting thing is that I think the oil quality sensors aren't actually a bunch of crap in this car. I've seen mine drop from 9500 miles after I changed it in August 2015 at the dealer down to like 3000 now. I've put maybe a little over 2K miles on it since then. I live and die by the short drive (commute is ~6.5 miles each way). In any case. I consider myself crazy about changing the oil and even I won't do it but every 5K in every car I've owned.

It's also going to come down to how hard you drive the car and modifications you have. I haven't put but 2,000 miles on my car since purchasing it from the dealer used but I plan to do my oil every 5000 miles and coolant every 30000. But I've already installed intake, charge pipes, jb4, ff wires, and catless downpipes.
