That seems to be a common thread with the cars I have bought, if i build it up in my head to be so good, it can't measure up

Was going to get a polo gti - powerful etc, got a fiesta xr4 instead (which I now use as a track car)

put simply I can't think of a better car than the 130 for me.

Mazda3 MPS was a good suggestion, for a cheaper car with above average performance. Golf R32... mmm stick with 130i... 350z will have more creaks and squeaks than your old man's falcon... rest i haven't driven.
cheers
You really have to drive the car on the limit to appreciate a DC2. I yet to find a stock car in a cheap price that have the handling of the DC2. If you score the handling of a DC2 8/10. A 135 at best is just a 6/10. The DC2 is all about corners and corner speed. What tyre does it have on the DC2. If they put shit tyres in and did not know how to get the best out of it... the owner may have ruined the handling and this may give you a bad impression. Also it averages 10L/100km back in 2002 even I drove it everywhere on 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear haha .
Yes the most I hate about the DC2 is that it is f^#&ing noisy, too rough and sits at 4000rpm at 110 rpm.... at least you know that you cannot be booked under 4000rpm in 5th gear.

Man more I talked about it I want to buy it back.

But I am sure I will also love a white Golf Mk V GTi DSG.

Have you thought of a Z4? Especially if you don't need four seats. If you can stretch a bit, you might be able to get a brand new (old model) for a very cheap price.

2 of my mates have bought 350z's and they're both solid cars. Very clean, you should check one out. Not bad for the money.

I had a look at the Z when I bought my Subaru about 3 years back and thought "nice car, built quality a bit iffy, doesn't have a cabin so much as a cockpit".

New 370Z is meant to be good but lacking in comfort for the daily-drive from all reports.

We just need to face up to the fact that our 1-series is the best car ever made

I've just come from an 04 Golf R32 which had 53,000kms, all I did to in was fit a GIAC chip. I must say I miss my R32 a great deal, it truly was an awesome car. It had plenty of power down low, but died out a bit at the top end of the rev gauge. But who really revs the pants off their cars around town, I know I cant because theres speed hump and traffic lights every 20metres.

I sold my R32 for $32k with 53000kms, in absolute immaculate condition only 2 months ago.

Thats my 2cents worth

i know this thread is old, but what about golf V GTi DSG?
I was comparing these with my 130.. 130 was about $15k-20k more expensive but worth the switch.. GTi impressive for the money you can pick some up for $30k now

What about an Evo 8 or 9? Also I would see if you can stretch for a Z4.
