So Sad ...
I really can't decide whether I'm furious, upset or both.
Over the weekend, some of the local "charmers" decided to give their pyro skills some practice, and targeted my daughters 12 month, 4000Kms old VW Polo. This was her pride and joy. She washed it every weekend, and as she didn't use it during the week, put it under a car cover from Sunday to Friday. It was parked out the front of our home, under a street light. I think I've decided I'm angry It's so sad to watch your kids learn the value of things, work hard to get nice things, and some little "treasure" comes along and does this. Sorry - just had to vent |

Thanks guys -- appreciate the scentiment. It's just the feeling of violation of your stuff and your living standard.

As far as a vendetta - Not that we can think of. Most of her friends and social life are in other parts of Sydney - due to her circle of friends from uni, work, etc being spread all over the place. We're in St Ives - so this is all very unfamiliar |

Really sorry to hear. That's really shocking that someone would do something like that.
On the bright side, I hope your daughter is covered with new for old. |

Glad nobody got hurt, there was no explosion and the fire didn't spread elsewhere.
This stuff is just terrible - what could possibly go through these idiots minds to possess them to set fire to near new car outside someone's house. Mind sound cliché - but what is the world coming to??? Hope you're daughter is now okay and she gets a very nice new car in short order. |

Ass holes..As long as your daughter was safe, is the main thing..
Assuming " new car replacement" in the policy of a 12 month old car is the go. .. Was this before or after the hail storm hit St Ives on the weekend/ |

I had my GC8 WRX, first ever car, broken into, everything stolen out of it and then torched.
All on the night of my 22nd birthday. In the leafy quiet burbs of Avalon. I know exactly how your daughter feels. You feel completely attacked and to be honest, violated. Best wishes for the insurance. Mine paid out within 48 hours (GIO), so hopefully your daughter has a brand new car very soon and she is back to happy. |

Thanks people - the support and response is very much appreciated, and reinforces ones faith in human nature, and reminds that not everyone is messed up.
The comments about no one being hurt are very apt. Had things worked out slightly differently, that could have been different. The car was parked under a street light (and thus next to a telegraph pole). Had that come down, who know what might have transpired - thankfully, that didn't happen. As always, trying to find the funny aspect, two things have emerged. Firstly, all the local kids now think I'm a complete head-case. With school holidays and Easter, lots of them are out on their bike riding around. I now look at them with a demented "Was it you" look on my face. Secondly, the incident hepled clarify the priorities of two of our neighbours. After making sure no one was hurt, both commented how lucky it was that the telegraph pole and associated wires didn't "go up", and how difficult that could have made the easter break - not having internet or cable TV. Ironically, I hadn't though of that, but had to agree.... Thanks again to all |
