Xenon Head Lamp

Do we have only one Xenon head lamp within each side of the head light assmbly instead of two traditional Halogen head lamps? It is because I've just noticed that I could not get the 2nd head lamp turn on. The high and low beam came from the same light bulb. Is this true?

There's a flap in the Xenon headlight projector that opens and closes with the pull of the high beam lever. You've had your car since 2008 and you just figured this out? Your 1Addict card has been revoked.

The reason that I asked is BMW's parts advisor told me that there are 2 head light bulbs on each side and he looked at my car and told me that they were out and I need to buy 2 replacment bulbs. Then I looked at the user manual which only mentioned 2 light bulbs for traditional Halogen lights and just 1 light bulb for Xenon light in each head lamp assembly.

The reason that I looked recently because I got an "Exterior Light" warning and found the passenger side angel light was out and then I discovered this.

Thanks for the confirmation.

P.S.--> I searched for "Xenon", "Head Lamp", "HeadLamp", "Head Light" and "Headlight" and nothing showed up :-(:-(:-(

you will have a seperate bulbe for the angel eyes(one bulb lights the 2 angel eye rings) and you will need one bulbe for the main headlight beam(yes its same bulb for low and high beam, BMW uses a shutter system similar to camera for high beam)

So why do they bother with two lights per side? Aesthetics?

2 lights per side is a design characteristic of bmws (just as the kidney grille has carried forward).

The inside H8 bulb is still needed for flashing high beams. Xenons aren't turned on just to flash.

Each head light housing has 2 round cirles (it looks like 2 head lights per side) but light (both low and high beam lights) only comes out from one of the round cirle (head light). It looks odd to me and this is why I asked cause I thought one of the head light bulb was burned out.

P.S.--> I am not talking about the angel eye light bulb. Mine is out and this caused the investigation.

Stop making stuff up. That is wrong. The Xenons do in fact come on for flashing high beams (even when regular low beams are off). The other bulbs are for angel eyes and cornering lights. The cornering lights come on when the headlights are in 'automatic' mode AND the turn signal is activated or the steering wheel is turned left or right. Pull up to a reflective surface such as a store window and try it for yourself (at night). This all applies only to Xenon equipped cars, obviously.

I stand corrected. My E85 with bi-xenons used the inside lamp for flash.
