Ordered a 2011 135i DCT
I just ordered a 2011 135i DCT and I have been obsessing over it. I just want it to be here. But anyway I have been looking into after market tuning and I was wondering how long did it take for good tunes to come out for the N54 engine? And how long should I expect to wait before a good tune comes out for the N55. Also if anyone has any recommendations on things I should read on this forum before getting this new car please link them to me.

It's in the works. I'd say give it another 6 months until it's getting pretty solid. I don't recall the N54 timeline exactly with the e90s. Besides, you've still got some time before it arrives, and then some time for break-in, etc before I'd play around with a tune. What car are you coming from? I ask because I would enjoy the stock power for a bit first - it's beastly on its own.

Congrats, you're going to love it, just got mine 2 days ago.
As for tunes, I don't remember which company it was, but there was a dyno posted on the engine section of this forum for an early tune. Shouldn't be long now! eleven11 is right, stock power is plenty, and I haven't even broken it in yet. edit: here it is http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=385053

Yes, I believe 1200 is the actual "break in" BMW suggests, but people argue both ways if it's needed. However, I'm not really basing my earlier comments on that break in threshold. I'm speaking more on throwing a tune in too early - something I wouldn't advise.
So, yes, coming from an A4, you should be having a blast for some time with the pure stock tune.

Please break in your car. My break in is 2000 miles with oil change at 1k and then every 5k in sync with free maintenance oil changes. This will add performance, life and value to your car.

As per manual, break in period is 1200miles (2000km) at varying speeds not passing 4500rpm or 100mph. After those 1200 miles, GRADUALLY increase engine/vehicle speeds, don't just floor it as soon as you break 1200

OK so break in is a good thing, or at least it can't hurt; it just takes a lot of self-control.......
To the tuning question: And yeah I figured that it would be plenty. I test drove a 2010 and it was screaming every single time I push the gas. I was more interested in exactly what you gave me which was what tuners were getting out of it right now. And again I ask the question is there anything I should read or do prior to getting this car? I have watched all the BMW videos. I have also read this forum, at least the recent stuff, pretty well. Thanks. |

So far, with just over 200 miles on my car (in 2.5 days!) I haven't had much trouble keeping the RPMs below 4.5k. The car is plenty fast without pushing too hard. The beauty of peak torque at 1200rpm I guess.

Performance 2011 DCT 135I
Had my car on the track yesterday for the first time and must say it was quite a performer. Admittedly I was not pushing it (only 2,000 miles and my first time driving it on track) but car is quite capable in the company of standard Porsche 911's (not "S" or "GT3" or "Turbo's" or Race cars) and even the likes of Roush Mustang GT's on track tires.
