I'd wish they'd make that small roadster.

I'd definitely want one in blue with a hardtop if possible.

They say they will announce that "Z2 model" soon.

But more likely my next vehicle will be a truck, a dodge Ram or a Ford F150. I need to haul big stuff quite often.

I plan on keeping my 1 for a while. But I have thought about what might be next. Honestly I have no idea. Nothing out there excites me more than my 1. And who knows what will be available to the enthusiests in 5 years. May end up keeping her until the wheels fall off.

I'm going to keep my 1 for a few more years then I'll probably trade for a 135i, or a 335iif I need 4 doors.

1M sometime next year. I don't drive a 1-series now, but am obsessed with getting one. I figure I might as well get the M while I can.

Whatever M-version of the 1-series (or 2-series if the 1-series designation becomes relegated to future fwd models) exists by the time I am forced to retire my 135i... hopefully not anytime soon.

+1 on all the Porsches... I got the 1er instead of a 3 so I could save some coin up for the P car.

I am amazed at how many around here aspire to a Porsche. May I wish all of you the success that it takes to afford one.

As one of you put it, who knows what will be available for the enthusiast in four years. A turbo 4 BMW might hit the spot if it is about the size of the current 1'er, a few hundred pounds lighter, and rear drive. Actually, that 245 hp turbo 4 might be real interesting in a sub 3000 pound FWD car that was only a bit larger than a Mini, and there seems to be a real chance of something like that happening.

I'd love that turbo 4 in an X1 for the Mrs. Could have some real fun once some tuning came out for it.

As far as the P-cars go, I think most people consider they are at a certain level and want to go up another notch. Personally, I know that to get into a Porsche it'll most likely be a 3-5 yr old 911 or maybe a 2-4 yr old Cayman S. I've aspired to have a Porsche as its all I've ever wanted since I was 3 and my dad brought home a 944 turbo. For some its the status, for others its the top level performance - on road or a track, but I don't see it being too much harder to afford than what most people pay for their cars already.

Better get your wallet ready for that one. (Assuming you could even still find one.)

New they're pretty outrageously priced, but they tank pretty hard in value after a few years. The latest model Cayman S's are pretty cool though. That's definitely the Porsche I would own. The hottest 911's are unobtainium for most guys.

Eh, you can find a early 997 GT3 for $60k which isn't TOO bad for what you're getting.

I wouldn't ever buy a new one unless I won the lotto just cuz of the 1st year hit you take on resale value, however that being said, its a car I would certainly hold on to for 5-10 years (my average thus far is about 1.8 yrs).

I wonder if so many people aspire to owning a Porsche in the 3 series forum? The Cayman is not that popular in Houston, and this is a town full of trophy cars. We have a hot climate. Heat from the engine tends to invade the cockpit of the Cayman which makes it unpopular. There are more 911's and M3's on the road here. High rollers in this town like big S Class AMG MB's.

Looking a few years out, the big question is how the fuel economy rules will change the auto market. The EPA rules are particularly hard on vehicles with small footprints. Porsche has a waiver that gives them an extra 2 years and since they were acquired by VW they can use extra mileage credits from their parent. However, this tends to limit availability and push prices up.

i love the Carrera 4S and the new Carrera GTS. I wouldn't mind a cayman S or cayman R either. if i don't end up with a porsche, i'll probably end up with a MKIV Supra.

As for the FWD issue, what I have in mind is a Mini on steroids, or a shrunk down GTI with more horsepower and BMW level trim, not really a sports car.
For me it's a couple things. Like most men I've had an obsession with Porsches for a long time. Besides that though, and equally nonsensical, I'm a German car fanboy. While I can't see myself owning an Audi or Merc (save a couple of them) I am in love with most cars that both BMW and Porsche creates.

I also love Porsche's racing lineage and the way most of their cars scream impractical for DD. However I never NEED to drive more than one passenger around, and I never NEED to carry much crap.

That being said I'd never own a Porsche, save the Panamera, without owning a more practical car as well.... just in case.

That's just my reasoning.

I'd love to park a Cayman S along side my 135, though that won't likely happen as the next set of wheels will carry an M badge.
