Even if I'm repeating another post here is my solution
For all of you freaking out on how to open the trunk if you accidentally close it while the negative line is unplugged when installing a JB4 or for whatever reason. I have a simple solution. No need for jumping or anything cuz that won't work. All you need to do is 1) take the back seat speaker cover and speaker out 2) you ou will find a bike looking line that will undo your back seat then you can reach the trunk latch and open the trunk manually |

Simple, doesn't require any dismantling:
1. Open door with key if locked. If unlocked, you know what to do. 2. Open hood.(this latch is mechanical) 3. Attach jump starter or jump from another car to the battery leads under the hood. 4. Insert Key. Turn on ignition. 5. Open trunk. As a side note, after doing this to myself once, I always put the seats down and leave the trunk insert out when doing work with the negative lead d/ced. I close the trunk occasionally like an idiot and its as easy as climbing in and reconnecting the negative lead from the back seat that way.

The keyhole for the trunk is only available on the E88 cabriolet models.
I place a towel right over the trunk latch so even if I close my trunk it won't latch. I also leave my windows ever so slightly open to open and close doors with ease.

Hmmm maybe it was just the 08 models. I have an 08 E82 and mine has one, I can't remember when they made the switch to stop including them, but it was a big fuss long ago when the JB3 and Procede were really the only tune options available as people kept locking them selves out.
TBH when I was running the procede (for some of the new guys, the procede was the main piggyback rival of the JB4) I would never disconnect the negative battery terminal and I would just put the ECU to "sleep" before installing. It was another "recommended" way of installation. You would just pop the hood, then lock your car, wait about 15 mins for the DME to go into sleep mode, then install. I don't know much about trucks, and there are so many different kinds, that I really can't help you there.
If the batter is dead I think that normally the coach calls a time out and they find a relief batter to help out. Hope this helps |
