Professor, just go to your dealer. I am sure they will have lots of 3 series in those colours. Jet is a lot darker, but also prone to scratches. I had it in my E46 years ago, and my friend had the saphhire. Next to the jet black, the metallic colour almost look grey!

Saphire Black is the metalic based of the two and is more hardy and scratch resistant than Jet black. My last three Bma's have been saphire black and in my eyes their is no comparison. Saphire in the sun looks fantstic and rich full of colour.

Thanks guys. I had a look at metallic plates at the dealer for both colours and it seemed that jet black shows swirls and fingerprints more but is also (as you say) the blacker of the two.

That is what Zaino is for. Several coats of Z2 and clear will keep those swirls and fingerprints away.

Jet Black for me. Why?
-I don't like sparkely paint unless it is dark grey. They just look gimiky imo. Jet black looks classy and there is no doubt that BMW's Jet Black is a deeper black then their sparkle version. -I'm getting a Vert, which all joking aside has a LOT less painted surface area to keep clean. As a matter of fact, a 1Vert is probably going to be the easiest car I have ever owned to keep looking nice. -Oh..and Jet Black is the most "non-chick looking" color BMW makes, LOL. Hey...I'm getting a Vert I need all the man help I can get!!!

I have jet black now and would not get it again. I would however consider getting the SBM. The jet black is way too easy to show swirls and scratches.

After talking to my local detailer, it's Jet black for me. Going to need to go over it with a carnubra and an RO every 3 months, but I'd be doing that anyway....
Even then, light swirls will start to show, despite the lightest of microfibring. /obsessivecompulsivereflectionist. |

My opinion is that Jet Black looks "Blacker" than metallic black, so when clean it looks better. Harder to keep looking good though. You will have to be real careful washing to prevent the dreaded swirlls.
NOW............KATERA...........I can't wait to see pictures of your car. I haven't seen a black vert and it sounds like it's going to look terrific. This is a must post pic car. Will need pics with the top up as well as down. Please don't disappoint.

Will do Trust me, I'm going to get some good pics and post here. BTW, I went back to the dealer today for another sneaky test drive and guess what! They had a Jet Black 128i Vert and an Alpine white 128i Vert. They also had a Sparkely Black coupe sitting next to the Jet Black Vert...Few things....... 1.) Jet black in the Vert is quite simply...the sheet! It looks so classy and agressive, especially from the front. The white looked ok, but next to the JB it was nooooo contest imo. 2.) Sitting the Saphire black next to the Jet black Vert there was NO question...Jet Black is deeper black. No question, even the sales guys noticed it. If you want the deepest darkest black, maintence be damned then go Jet black and save the $500 bucks.

My current 330ci is Black Saphire metalic and their is definately no blue in it. I just prefer the BSM.. i think its is more scratch resistant and easier to keep clean than the Jet Black..
