Installed the revised B&M 45123 in BSM 135i's car

It's been a busy week. The new, revised 45123 was installed on BSM 135's car this past Saturday. Here's the new unit compared to the old unit:

The new unit is on the left, about 1/2 inch shorter than the previous production run to drop the height more along the line of the stock height.

I've been in contact with Turner Motorsports to organize a group buy. Will Turner has agreed to a discount price of $249.00 if there's a party of 10 interested. I've been trying to get enough people together on the other forums as well (Bimmerforum and Bimmerfest), if I can get a bigger party going we might be able to get a bigger discount.

I'll let BSM 135i chime in as to the impression of the new lowered stick. Add your name to the list if you're interested in the group buy...Mods and admins, if GB isn't kosher here without sponsorship, I might be able to convince TMS to sponsor this site as well, they've been monitoring the traffic here and have had some thoughts, but if this group buy goes well they may very well plunge in and sponsor BimmerPost.

C'mon!, $249.00 is $50 off of retail and at least $10 off of their (TMS) already low sales price. I think if we get a group of 20 I can leverage a bigger discount from Will.

I'm loving the new revised version! My first impression on it was that it was smooth from the beginning and not notchy like the unrevised version was, second was its FINALLY shorter! My girlfriend's response when seeing it was, "It's so little!" LOL. Guys this is a very well made piece and you won't be disappointed by it, I know there was someone on here who bought it a while back but returned it because it was a little notchy but that was the old piece, this one is smooth! And for the price Turner is offering I would say that's a steal compared to what other SSK's are going for. +346274863 on this product!!

Hey BSM, can you post pics of installed so he can see how tall the new version is?

I am looking for a SS kit but I cannot stand when they make the shifter shorter as well - like the OEM SS kit. I like the shifter where it sits now stock - in regards to height - so if I can just get the throws to be shorter I would be set.

Glad the revision worked out, it was mostly based on your recommendation that B&M decided to make the change...Sorry about the comment from the girlfriend.

The older unit that was initially test fitted in BSM's car had the knob sit about 1/2" too high, the new revised unit (which is what Turner will be moving) has it sit almost exactly where the OEM stick and knob used to sit.

When would these ship out? As soon as the 10 person list is filled out?

it's around the same height or a LITTLE shorter than stock, here's the pics (notice how much the unrevised version is pulling the boot up):

Probably give it a week after. I need to make sure Will has plenty of stock to ship out. He's going to a BIG racing weekend first weekend of August and may be a little hard to reach though.

Is this a straight forward install or do I need to get under the car and kill myself to install it?

Yeah if I could get a DIY for this I'll probably throw my name in the hat. Also wouldn't mind comparison shift travel to other SSK's.

the kit comes with detailed instructions and yes you're going to have to get under the car to do the install. all other SSK's out there advertise 25%-30% in shift decrease also so they're all pretty much going to have the same travel.

Man...I hate to say it but I doubt Turner would want to ship these overseas. I think in Australia and Germany you'd probably have to buy from local distributor, otherwise you'd be faced with up to $100 in international shipping cost.

I can check in with Will. But if you're looking for installation instruction, I posted them on the E90post forums:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=189198

The process is simple enough, make sure your car is properly supported. We had a lift in the back and made the install 100X easier, but it's not impossible without it. A mechanic will likely charge anywhere from 1/2 hour labor to a full hour, between $40-120 for the install.

The only tricky part is trying to get the OEM pivot cup over the B&M shifter, you may need to find a way to hold the B&M unit stationary, and use a small flat-head screwdriver to work the tabs on the pivot cup around the base of the shifter pivot. Also be sure to line-up the "wing" tabs on the pivot cup with the cup in the carrier arm, and tap the winged tabs until they're seated firmly (you'll likely hear a little audible "click" when they seat).

On a scale of 1-10, this is a 3 beer job tops.
