I agree. When my wife got hers, I was going to try this argument, but when you do some math on it, calculating length of yellow light, speed being travelled, stopping distance, etc., my wife would have been able to stop her Chevy Tahoe before the intersection line. So the argument was a no-go for her situation. |

I got hit with one of these in Plano a year ago. Some include video. I received the letter and it had three pictures, and I was pretty ticked cause it was clear I made a right turn on red. However when I checked the site the video clearly showed I didn't come close to stopping for the light. So I pulled out my credit card and paid it off. I don't like these automated tickets at all, but I knew it wasn't worth the fight, which I'm sure is what they hope for when the ticket is only $75 and there's no points.
Also, if I remember correctly from a defensive driving course, yellow means stop if it is safe to do so. Thus making it difficult to use the "it wouldn't be safe for me to stop before the light turned red" defense. If you see the light turn yellow, and you have time to stop and it's safe to do so and yet you continue through the intersection you can be given a ticket for that in some jurisdictions. If random actually tried to fight this, the judge would laugh in his face since there was nobody behind him and he should have been braking when the light went yellow. |

Traffic lights with cameras on them are so stupid but at least other places aren't as bad as Arizona where they have put cameras on streets and on freeways where if you go over the speed limit it will get you!

I'm sorry...call me a stick in the mud but running red lights is just WRONG.
You are endangering the lives of others just because you are in a hurry or are not paying attention to what you are supposed to be doing....driving a vehicle in a responsible manner. I usually refrain from negative posts, but I get very frustrated seeing people run red lights every day and think nothing of it, or think that it's wrong that "the system" used some unfair method to catch them. It's wrong, it's unsafe.......pay the fine and stop for red lights in the future.
