Anyone with DCT overheating at the track - Page 2 - BMW 1 Series Coupe Forum / 1 Series Convertible Forum (1M / tii / 135i / 128i / Coupe / Cabrio / Hatchback) (BMW E82 E88 128i 130i 135i)

Our 135i was making ~360 wheel hp if I remember correctly along with full M3 suspension conversion, DA coilovers, LSD and BBK. Lapping Laguna Seca at low 1:40s isn't exactly going out for a Sunday drive, especially for a 135i. Although oil and water temps never gave us issues, the DCT transmission sure did.

We never did try to auto mode, perhaps it will automatically down shift when asked to do so.

The point is, you likely will not have any issues with DCT, if this car is not driven at the limit.

No thats not a Sunday drive.
I did a 1:41.2 in a 2006 Cayman S with PSS9s -2.5 Camber, Swaybars and Hoosier R6 in Qualifying, POC class record.

I hope your right, but I'm usually at 9-10/10, I certainly was at the limit of the stock suspension and tires at times that day. Its just not fun unless you are trying to control at the limit. Certainly with massive understeer its harder to fine that razors edge.

What he/she said...'hope your right'. As the OP I'm beyond committed now and own my new 135is DCT and have yet to take it to the track. I have two things going for me that I hope will let me get past the track with no issues even at 9/10s driving. First is that while my car has had the suspension tweaked the engine is stock. Second the car is a 135is which has a secondary radiator and larger fan. As the DCT has an exchanger with the radiator I'm hopeful that will give me a little more buffer than most others have.

I was on AD08 Neova's, very sticky street tires. With Hoosiers I think 1:39 is attainable.

Not bad, whats that thing weigh? was doing :43 on NT-01 a little less on RE11s. Car and driver were about 3400Lbs and 260-265 wheel, six speed, completely stock engine.

Have you tried adding a trans cooler?

3450 lbs with driver at the time. Around 360 WHP and matching tq.

No, never tried adding a cooler. Sold it and back to a manual car instead. E9X M3 with DCT and OEM cooler fair much better.
