BMW 130i from Mexico

Hi everyone, i just joined the forum. My name is Mauricio and I am from Mexico. I recently bought an E87 (130i) and I am just loving it. It is an 06 car but is is very well looked after, it only has 43,000km and has some nice extras such as the performance steering wheel, short shift kit, TRW 18in wheels and it is lowered on H&R sports.

Here are two pics right after a paint correction on the roof and hood.

And here you can see the SW and the SSK

I hope you like, comments welcome. Also, I am thinking of returning to the stock springs as Mexico City is just pothole city. Also the wheels are ET35 and can rub at times, I have the original 17"wheels which may be a good option with some spacers for the looks, again, low profile tyres, low stance and big bumps and holes are not a nice combination.

Very nice! Welcome.

I wonder when someone will bring an e87 in from Mexico or Canada and drive it in the states.

In NYC there is occasionally an E81 with diplomatic plates on it parked in midtown.

Also the E87 and E81 arent sold in canada.

i see 1er hatches in San Diego from time to time with Baja California plates

always thought it would be a great idea to drive down south across the border and get a compact diesel 1er for awesome mpgs, but after looking into what it would take seems too much of a hassle

Here is my cousins 1 series hatch from Mexico City. Unfortunately, I think someone robbed it at gun point. I believe it was a 2007 125i? I know it had 170 hp. Back then I wasn't into cars yet so I don't have more pics. He drives an Audi A3 now xD.

Hello, let me share also some little mods I have done to the car, just today bought the BMWP Hand brake to replace a carbon fibre one the previous owner put.

This is how it looked

Here the BMWP part installed

It now makes a much better match to the wheel and shifter

Also, last weekend I painted the exhaust trims as they were never cleaned before (I think) and they were rusted and very bad looking.

I cleaned them as good as I could and then painted with mate black high temp paint. After 4 layers I cooked them in the oven for 1.5 hours and then applied transparent and cooked again for another 1.5

Here you can see some pics of the process.

1. Applying color

2. Here to the oven

3. The finished product, the pic is actually very bad, but they don't look bad at all, much like a 135i exhaust. I will try to take better pics of the exhaust as soon as I can.

I think if they don't fit correctly, you should sell them. Plenty of good bespoke options that are designed for the car, no reason to settle.

I washed her yesterday and took this two pics now. I will take a compelte side one next. Meanwhile here you have these.

I agree I may have liked them more in all gray, but the gunmetal inners and the polished looks aren't that bad, are they? I may paint them gray in the near future. Also, it seems I have someone selling me the M-Suspension springs so will rise it a bit. I like the slammed look but it is really annoying.

By the way, what you folks think about using 135 springs in my 130? I knwo the 135 is heavier and the springs will be stiffer and may rise it a tiny bit more, but that is ok. I already have bilsteins HD

Hi there just sharing with you the latest updates I have done to my car over the past couple of months.

First I upgraded the brakes by installing the front system from a 335i. Everything is just P&P and no need to modify anything and the install is actually very simple. Here are some pictures of the brakes and how they compare to the OEM setup in my car.

The overall brake feel did change a bit, the original system had a sharp initial response which I also liked but with the new setup the brake operation is just smoother with still very good feel without that aggressive bite that can be uncomfortable during city traffic, I think this is due to the larger piston. The brakes start binding right from the first millimeters of pedal travel with a very linear behavior, the more you press the more it brakes. The overall braking power is noticeable higher as the 130i is just too light for the 335i bigger discs and calipers which is good as I have bigger reserves of braking force making safety levels higher with the added benefit of having less fade and a very fast recovery due to the larger area if fade ever occurs.

Next I upgraded the tires, when I first bought the car it came with different brands front and rear, in the front she had Dunlop Sport 01 A/S and in the rear some unknown Chinese. The Dunlops were all season and since Mexico has warm wheather all year long I opted for summer tires. I needed rounded shoulders as my wheels are ET 35 so I picked a set of PZERO ROSSO's which I have to say are more than decent tires, I know they are not the best tires but definitely not bad at all either. I have to say that these tires may be underrated and now Tire Rack has them for about 500 A SET!!! Super cheap for a very decent tire!

Here are the pics of the tires before and after being mounted

As you can see they are very rounded and suit me very well due to my wheel setup.

Compare to my previous tires these are just day and night, I no longer can brake traction that easily and even on polished concrete they hold traction very well. I will have to wait till the raining season to see how they are in the wet but at least for spirited driving they are superb and since I have square setup the car is very neutral with still the ability to adjust with throttle and steering. I don't know how they do at the track but the chances I track my beauty are very minimal.
