Go with your emotional choice. Life is too short to be (completely) logical with cars. What one makes you smile more?
I test drove an A5 before going with my 135i (nearly 4 years ago) and the Audi just didn't do it for me. The Bimmer felt like home before I even owned it and that's why I went with it.

One of my friends has an A5 2.0T here in Colorado, never drove it but always found it boring, even from the passenger seat, that must be the diesel-like sound of the 2.0 TFSI. I think it is a good car, that does everything fine (and most owner of the latest version of that engine seem pretty happy about performance and torque - especially at mid range) but I still believe that you will kick yourself every day you'll drive it because it is not very fun compared to the 128i

Talk you out of an A5?
Easy: It's not a BMW.

Me = Didn't
Regardless, my advice stands.

nice.
going off the original post, though, i'd have bought the a5. if you can afford it, never ever pass on options you're on the fence about. you'll just be irritated with the car later and end up selling it. ever wonder why you see an abundance of stripper 328's for sale used? because they're a bit silly. the beauty of worrying about the ~50lb or less difference you're usually looking at in gear is it gives you an excuse to mod

He made the right choice though it is something of a toss-up between the 128i and an A5. I think the A5 is more of a comfortable beauty queen. The 128i lends itself to being driven more agressively.

I test drove a used S5 when I was helping my girlfriend choose her car and I vastly preferred getting into my 135 at the end of the day.
No idea on the A5 ...though the 2.0T that's in some of 'em powered her outgoing GTI, I thought. I like BMW's engines over Audis, myself. She wound up liking Audi's comfort over a BMW. |
