She turns heads.
My car is Titanium Silver.
Yes, the boring silver that makes the car nearly invisible. Nothing is blacked out, there is chrome on the car and windows have no tint. I have not a single bit of carbon on it, nor do I have any decals, badges or any other racing paraphernalia. My wheels are classic looking and silver in color, they are style 216 and I find them beautiful, but they hardly require rolled fenders... they simply suit the car. She's not lowered, there's no crazy camber to speak of and the exhaust tips look nearly industrial in their simplicity. And yet, every time I drive up anywhere where people who like cars may gather I get compliments and praise for how this car looks, sounds and carries itself. Many of us are questioning whether the 1-series will ever attain a cult status. From what I can see, it is already happening. |

Oh yes, I have not really posted any pictures as of yet.
I have to get some lithium batteries for my DSLR and do a proper photo shoot... after she's cleaned up and looking pretty. Hopefully very soon. I'm taking her for brake, diff and steering fluid change next Friday. So very likely next weekend I will snap some glamour pix. Stay tuned for some OEM+ hotness, lol. |

Funny - I get the same thing and my car is certainly more plain Jane than yours. I've got light tint & smoked side markers, but , with the standard 128i bumpers, it is sedate looking to say the least. Yet still get interest. I've had people pull up to me a stop lights and comment. It's cool having a car that is unique.

Awesome!
The 1-series still draws attention because so many people never knew it existed and it looks different enough from the rest of the BMW portfolio that it catches the eye. It has real character and that's why we all love it! I love mine so much so that I've decided to keep it indefinitely even when I eventually move on to a new daily driver. Oh, and mine is black sapphire metallic, but other than window tint and performance exhaust, it still looks stock externally (not lowered or anything and no CF bits). (That said, as soon as I get back from my Germany vacation, I am putting on new wheels for the summer).

This is putting this thread off on a bit of a tangent - do all of you think our cars can last a really long time if maintained and cared for? I'm not concerned about the mechanicals, but, all the software in the car. I know my computers start to clog up (technical term) as they get older, even though I'm using the same Windows, Excel, etc, etc. Will our cars do the same?
The fact the car learns our driving habits and adjusts throttle response and shift points is an example. I read recently that there are more lines of code in a Ford F-150 than Facebook.

Looks pretty good to me. Wrap would make it look different and interesting though... if you need a change.

Ideally, in a future where I have an awesome job and I make good amounts of money, I'd get the paint completely restored, and then wrap the car to protect that perfect finish and have a more exciting color to gawk at (something along the lines of McLaren's Volcano Orange )...

My 2012 135i is mostly stock, although I did get a second set of mirror caps painted black that it's wearing for the moment. |

I think the 1's will go for very many years, just keep the rust away. Maybe buy unique parts, especially 3rd brake light. This comes from a guy who just sold his nearly mint 27 year old E30 (and it was an iX).

There is the greatest little driving road right near there, but it's only about 5 corners and they are all blind. Great place to test the handling of a car, I used to live down the street.

E82 1ers simply break necks. Not many of them out there, and the Bangle styling is timelessly pretty. Plus, they've been out of production for a while so the whole "didn't want to spring for the 3 series?" thing is done with. Most folks don't know what it is.
Watched quite a few people trip on things looking at mine while walking.

I was at the liquor store the other day and a guy outside said "Nice car, what year is it? I always wanted one of these!", absolutely gushing. I said "2013" and he was all like "OH! That's my favorite year!" I went inside while he continued to circle around my car pointing things out to his girlfriend/wife. I stayed inside the store while he did so, keeping a wary eye on it until he left. I'm pretty sure he thought it was an M-something and I didn't want to embarrass him in front of his lady.

Stopped by the Hyundai dealer to check out the new Kona as my wife will soon need a new car.
Spent a few minutes inside looking at their newest lineup and as I got out, there was a brand new white Genesis G70 parked outside with a small crowd of salesmen and customers staring at it in awe. So I stared at it a bit too, and it was very nice and very fancy with dark chrome, big red brembos and posh quilted leather, the kind you would find in an upscale brothel. I asked the owner if it was a 2T, but it turned out to be the almighty V6 version with a gazilion-speed AT. I showed a bit of regret, as I was hoping to see three pedals inside, but I am a bit of a hopeless dreamer, you know. As we were sharing some comments and opinions on the progress of things on the automotive landscape, one of the staff jokingly stated that my compliments mean a lot as I obviously own a proper sports coupe with a proper manual transmission and a proper badge that will smoke the Genesis any day of the week. Ummm... I guess so, but I was only there for 10 minutes and they already managed to check out my car and so thoroughly? Good on you Hyundai sales people - you seem to know the real thing when you see it. PS: I don't actually frequent any brothels, let alone upscale ones, but that quilted leather looked so cheesy and downright awful I actually imagined brothel furniture to be upholstered in the exact same fashion. Yeah, I love it as well when someone makes a flattering comment about my car, but I'm the one who matters and I still always turn around to get one more look as I walk away. Had her since Oct 2010 and the honeymoon is NOT over.
