Job Opening @ APEX - Digital Graphic Specialist

Does poor letter kerning give you cold sweats? Do you get stoked when the graphics, designs, and visual content you create breathes life into an old, dusty product page? Are you just as passionate about cars and motorsports as you are about growing your marketing career? If you’re itching to put your sweet design chops to use in an industry that you’re actually excited about, then this is the opportunity for you.

Right now, the APEX marketing department is at the crossroads of “let’s make awesome sh*t” and “ain’t nobody got time for that,” so we’re looking to expand our dream team. We’re seeking skilled and creative marketing talent to augment our small, but effective team. We’re looking for a right-brained rock star who will work with our Technical Content Creator to pump out the best content the wheel industry has seen. Ideally, graphic design and photo manipulation is your bread and butter. More specifically, the responsibilities of this position will require you to get elbow-deep with typography, branding, advertising, email campaigns, and dabble in web design.

We’re not looking for a full-time designer to completely redesign our website. We also do not need a dedicated photographer/editor, but familiarity with those fields is a plus. At the same time, this position isn’t suitable for an entry-level designer without a meaningful portfolio. For example, consider what it would take to launch a new product page—photo manipulation, graphic design with an understanding of UI/UX, working effectively with the content marketing team, etc. It’s a tall order, but if you can see yourself touching most aspects of a project like that, there’s a good chance you’re just what we’re looking for.

Objective:

The Digital Graphic Specialist will be our go-to team member for all things graphics related. If it involves Photoshop or Illustrator, it’s going to come across your desk. Your graphics must enhance our product launches and Group Buys. Great products and screamin’ deals will be a huge success because your work excites our customers and compels them to buy. There’s room to explore new styles and designs, but you’re responsible with maintaining consistency in our brand image. Your responsibilities lean more towards customer education and less towards sales promotions. Your success is measured by your ability to reduce the number of phone calls and emails we get for questions that should have been answered by our website.

Our Digital Graphic Specialist is:

Artistic, creative, and original—with a portfolio that can prove it
Able to demonstrate that they are obsessively organized
An active user of popular social media platforms. (Yeah—you with all the photos of your car on Instagram!)
A lifelong learner who is always willing to explore the latest design trends and master new skills
Proficient at balancing form & function in their design work to meet budgets and deadlines
Comfortable jumping in and getting their hands dirty to lend their hand during photo shoots and test fitments
Able to effectively strategize plans as a part of a team to win office Nerf wars

Our Digital Graphic Specialist will:
  • Work as a team with our Marketing Coordinator, Content Writer, Photographers and Developers to complete marketing initiatives
  • Mockup, Photoshop, and illustrate their way through our promotional campaigns, email blasts, tech articles, product releases, and website improvements
  • Create graphics that educate customers in ways that writing or photography alone cannot
  • Help transform our boring product pages that currently leave customers craving more information into pages that educate and entice. Bring this page up to par with this page
  • Grow our forum presence by helping create fresh content that the enthusiast community would appreciate
  • Reorganize and redeploy our public on-car galleries so that customers spend less time on the fence since they won’t have to use their imagination as much before committing to purchasing
  • Maintain our internal image galleries so the Sales and Marketing team can easily find the content they need
  • Crank out simple image edits and graphics in a jiffy when others only need a few minutes of your time to finish their project
  • Work in sync with our Product Development team to support successful product launches by generating needed content on a schedule that ensures your deliverables aren’t holding-up a deadline
  • Supercharge our Group Buy participation levels by maintaining community interest through the consistent release of customer requested content
  • Work with contract marketing and design specialists on larger projects where your in-house expertise is required to ensure their outsourced talents produce the results we’re looking for

Our Digital Graphic Specialist has:
  • 2+ years experience in graphic design or relevant field
  • Extensive experience and thorough understanding of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Experience with Mac OS X
  • Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A working knowledge of UI/UX design

Our Digital Graphic Specialist gets a cookie if they are:
  • Familiar with DSLR and studio photography
  • A fellow automotive/motorsport/powersport enthusiast
  • Have a working knowledge of HTML/CSS/BBCode

  • Competitive compensation & generous benefits package
  • Work in your underwear – Telecommuting supported
  • Support your track addiction with reimbursements for HPDE and autocross event registration fees
