Procede n55 dragstrip testing
Testing the N55 Procede at the track.
135i 7dct Catback exhaust Vishnu Meth injection kit (m7) 80/20 mix Even with drag radials, can't do better than a 2.0 60'. Launch control doesn't work for warming up tires during burnout. And launch mode sucks for actual launching since it's just a 4k rpm clutch dump. So spinning un-heated 275-40-17 drag tires all through 1st and there is nothing I can do about it :/. Will have this worked out soon. But in terms of power, this engine has decent potential. Not the same max power potential as the n54 but still pretty good given minimal mods. Still a few more runs left. Guesses are welcome |

Well the tuners have their work cut out for them it sounds like; so they just have to work a little harder to earn their money.
However, the masses will benefit from similar power as the N54, and have the option of the dct to make it all happen. I thought I might have to drive mine for a while, but it looks like i'll do my usual 18-24mo stint and move on up to an 11 dct next time. By then the tunes will be ready and power will be plenty. Keep up the good work, and keep up the battles. (BMS/Shiv) no matter who wins... WE WIN!

Sorry for the suspense!
The night got cut short by an accident (motorcycle!). Ambulance and fire trucks came. Didn't look good for the rider who seemed unconscious from where i was standing... i hope he is okay. As for the n55, it did good. Car kept on getting stronger as autotuning did it's thing. Started off with trap speeds in the 114-115mph range and ended up 117+mph. As explained earlier, the DTC can't launch worth a darn and all my 60" times were in the 2.00-2.15 range. The last two runs: 12.389@117.151 with 2.030s 60' 12.327@117.406 with 2.146s 60' Trapping at 91.857 and 92.455 respectively in the 1/8th. So yes, the car has 11s in it with a semi-decent 1.8s 60'. And with additional mods (FMIC, catless dp and 110oct), I'm guessing it will eventually trap close to 120mph. The big thing right now is to get launch control to work the way we want it to. As for tuning the n55, it's heaps different than the n54. There is, quite literally, no similarity in how the DMEs work and what it takes to make them happy. The biggest difference, however, is the knock and boost control system. Without isolated boost control and timing control, there is no way anyone is going to make big power out this engine safety or consistently. We are doing some pretty unconventional things with this tune. And it's working great. For a small turbo that has a hard time holding 13psi of boost at 6000rpm, it's moving along very well. And drivability is perfect. |

He didn't remove the factory downpipe with cat. All he did was bolt up a quick and dirty exhausts from there back. It replaced the standard mid-pipe and muffler. The n55 is still running factory airbox/filter, stock intercooler and stock downpipe/cat. So there still is considerable room for improvement!

I ran the same twin exhaust I shower before. And on 91oct gas plus methanol. Conditions were good so I was seeing full timing. Not sure if race gas would have helped much more. It probably would have on a hotter day.

Hey shiv would you expect the same numbers with a e90 n55 since it would be able to get better traction? Say maybe lower 60' but same 1/4 time.. Thoughts?

Because the 2011 dct transmission has launch control which makes it harder to launch at higher rpms. The 335I could launch at a better rpm and hve a lower 60ft time

Not here in the states. The 335iS has the dct but that is using the n54. All other '11 n55 e9xs use the standard auto tranny.
