Rear ended on the way to work

Hi All

So on my way to work today a delightful Indian fellow decided that my brake light being on where not an indication I was stopped(had been for about a minute in peak hour m4 traffic) & hit me at about 30-40km/h.

He damaged my rear bumper, ruined my bmw cf diffuser, shunted my exhaust. My question is what should I look at damage wise from the exhaust? as I've now got a filthy rattle at my turbos which wasn't there before.

I swear people hate this car, 2 accidents in 8mths from people just not either looking or paying attention.

on a side note my back is sore & I'm a tad irritated

Very sorry to hear about the accident Anthony. Sounds like the car is cursed.

Get everything checked thoroughly & have insurance replace anything with a trace of damage. This may include turbos... *winks*

I really think it is :/ last time I was lucky I had my e30 to drive, but the e30 is no longer peak hour traffic drivable after swapping in the m30b35 & with the heavy as hell clutch. Need to sort out a hire car now & claim it through his insurance well his bosses insurance which is a headache.

I'm going to be so so picky with the repairs I had issues with the last repair with poor paint quality control so this time I'm going to inspect it like someone with OCD.

Who are they insured with? See if you can choose your repairer being the aggrieved party.

Sorry to hear... insurance should replace everything back to what it was before including all mods i.e. the cf diffuser (will be replaced with an OEM sourced from Germany if there are none in stock).

The hardest part (other than not having a car for 1 month) is getting the right repairer. Depending on who you are insured with, you will need to fight for the best repairer and not go through a cheap chop shop repairer that some insurance companies use.

Mods wise - you can take advantage of an unfortunate event and net yourself an aftermarket exhaust if you still had the OEM one - BMW will quote $1.2k just for axle back otherwise you can just get your aftermarket one replaced. Turbos you can also get an upgrade although you may need to add extra on top.

Aami with a choice of repairer, annoyingly I had the bmw performance diffuser, & I have the bmw performance exhaust. I really hope it isn't a month wait again that will be the second time in 8mths.

I wish I could daily the e30 it's atleast fun to drive instead I'll end up with a nugget hire car. Going in Monday for the car to be assessed & going to be a pain in the ass. At the end of the day his insurance well his bosses insurance is footing the cost of the repairs.

Damn... my guess is that the dump pipes need replacing as the turbos are rattling now - so would say you could get aftermarket dump pipes as replacement.

With AAMI I would suggest you to use the 3 quotes options and choose amongst the best BMW panels shops in Sydney.

i.e. 1x Super expensive i.e. BMW official repairer
1x Non-recommended AAMI repairer that would be ideal
1x AAMI repairer that is highly recommended

This way you will get a good repair deal!

In my experience dont rely on his insurance to fix it properly. Unless you are both insured with AAMI, i would be inclined to claim through your own insurance and get the repairs done by yourself/your insurance as they will care more about what happens. You "may" be liable for your excess initially, but if the other driver has no way out of admitting fault (like your case) at worst youll get your excess refunded or alot of the time they dont even get you to pay it if your not at fault.

Dont expect his insurance to try and get the best repair done for your car... Its sad but they are only gunna try and save a buck!
PS - AAMI is NOT choice of repairer, they will just a quote themselves out of 3...

i don't think insurance will fix the exhaust all the way to the rattle. had a similar issue a while back in my honda. rear ended and had an exhaust leak which = boost leak.. wasn't happy that insurance didn't want to fix it.

GL with it all. If you need legal help let me know!

aami gave me choice of repairer last time as I class a regional, I really hope they fix my exhaust rattle cause I will be a might pain in the arse if they wont. I have a dashcam so they can listen to how the car sounded to how it sounds now.

I think I just invest in a volvo 850 or a tank

This will get you a hire car for as long as you need. His insurance will have to pay for it. All you need is some of his details and his claim number.

I have used compass claims. I was happy with them except that the best car they seem to give you is a 316i

Got a brand new 328i from Compass which was way better than the 116i that my smash repairer offered me. Drove it for 10 days. I was impressed, especially with how good it sounded.

Sorry to hear dude...

If you need any advice regarding the back injury or claims I'm a physio and I deal with motor vehicle accident injuries all the time.

In regards to a repairer, check out Basha Autohaus in West Ryde, 9807 5677. Ask for Greg and tell him Alex sent you. He's the only person I'd let work on my car and I'm anal as hell when it comes to repairs.
