Brake warning

A few days ago I got the service indicator for the rear brakes, AND the yellow "BRAKE" word did come on near where the SES is.

But two days later it went away. I read the codes today, and there's no BRAKE fault.

Was this:
- a fake alert, based on mileage alone, or
- the brake pad sensor indicator did actually fire

Today I checked the rotors and they are worn.

What I don't understand is why the warning would disappear again.
