Someone hit my car : (
My car is parked in the front of the house because we have 3 cars and our garage only fits 2.
Person was searching for a house in my street and sideswiped my car. At least they stopped to apologize and tell us. Most people would drive away

Most people do drive away. Hopefully, insurance will cover it all.
Glad no one was hurt at least!

That sucks! But at least they stopped and exchanged insurance info. That makes it alot easier. Too bad though....That's why I never park on the street.

Its bumper and rear quarterpannel. Unless the QP just buffs out.

I had my other vehicle hit in a parking lot several months ago. The other party did not leave a note and I didn't notice until a day later (it happened at night). I've also had a wreck where the other party was at fault. My insurance advised me that the wreck would count against me on rates unless I just handled it myself with the other insurance company. That was pretty painless. I'd give it a try, at least.
A potential issue is who does the repair. Some insurance companies have their list of who they will pay for, others want you to get multiple prices, others send you to their claims center where they give you a quote and if you accept a check. I'm not aware of any that authorize a dealer. They might not be the best qualified too. I've had pretty good luck with 3rd party work and many will provide a lifetime guarantee (good for as long as you own the car). Good Luck. Jim

update: Took the car into BMW and they said $2,300 to fix
to fix the rear bumper only, it says 4 hours of labor, 2.6 of paint, and 3.1 hours to replace RT Guide PN 5112717. 7.1 hours @ 45/hr is 319.00 to repair damaged bumper(not replace). painting to fix old bumper is 2.6 hours paint + 1 hour clearcoat = 3.6 hours @ 45 hour = 162 to paint. A 135i rear bumper kit from dan is ~550 without paint. Not sure how much it costs to paint an entire bumper. gonna have to crunch some more numbers to see if I should just go ahead and replace the bumper vs getting it fixed. I would want to DIY the rear bumper but I doubt my parents would let me also since they have to fix my rear quarter panel which got most of the damage(the rest of the $$$)

When you say paint the old bumper, its sand down the damaged portion and only paint the damaged portion? or a total respray? If its the second option the same price should hold for a 135 bumper. |

edit: got a call from the other dudes insurance. They need to see my car in person before they can give me any $$, even though I went straight to the dealership. They said they will call me in 1-7 days to schedule an appointment for them to come to my house x[

That sucks mate, however as everyone has said count yourself lucky the person stopped. Last two bits of damage on my cars (both of which are now sold) and the only damage ever done to them was from car park hit and runs. This is in Australia mind you.
It's getting increasingly hard to justify buying nice things these days. |

They have the right to look, they may not agree with the $$.
Not your problem, work with your insurer, they will settle the claim with you, perhaps pay the repairer directly. Your insurer will then work the 'recovery' or subrogation with the other insuer. You'll always have better service with your insurer. Once repaired the bumper will look like new, no doubt the entire bumper cover will be repainted -not worth the time to blend. Best of Luck |
