JB4 problem.

So I've had my JB4 on my N55 for almost two years now and everything was fine up until a week ago. I recently upgraded to iso 5.8 and it was running fine for a few days. Then one day I start up my car and notice the gauges didn't sweep. After a few seconds the engine malfunction warning comes on. I tried turning off the car and turning it on again to no avail.

I'm convinced the JB4 isn't turning on because the gauges don't sweep and I can't access the in dash controls. Tried connecting my laptop via USB and it failed to connect. I checked all the wiring and everything seemed OK.

I daily the car so I removed the JB4 and it runs fine, albeit I miss the power. Haha.

Has anybody experienced this before or can give me a place to start diagnosing? Any help appreciated.

My laptop wasn't able to connect to the JB4. It's like the JB4 was completely unresponsive. Is there another way to upload firmware?

Try installing it again and double checking the connections. If it still does not work contact jon@burgertuning.com

I have had this problem before. I would uninstall then re-install the JB4 interface and do another firmware update.

Have you tried the recovery option? Not sure if this would be a case where you would use it.

Thanks for the ideas. Going to try them right now. Finally have the time to fiddle with it. I noticed on the updated BMS instructions they say not to plug in the MAF connection anymore. That applies with the old harness on a 135i as well right? I'll try it both plugged in and unplugged to see if anything changes.

Applies to old harness if using latest firmware.

I have been thinking about ordering the JB4 for my 135i N55 but everytime I decide "Alright lets do this !" I find a piece of information like this, issues of some kind. It is not the end of the world and I think the trade off for more power is worth it, I am going to wait until spring for this upgrade.

odd question but has anyone stalled out their DTC at parking lot speeds ? I actually some how stalled my car... slightly concerning but more embarrassing because I don't stall a manual transmission nevermind an automatic..

I like the 1M bumper on your space grey 135i, I hope you sort out the tuning issue! Best of luck!

Thanks for the reassurance. Re installed the JB4 and double checked all the connections. Left the MAF connector unplugged. After re-downloading the interface along with hex 5.9 everything seems to working fine ATM. Maybe it was just some kind of hiccup. Anyways, I'm glad to have it back.

Thanks for the compliment! The JB4 works beautifully so I wouldn't be too hesitant on getting one. I've had it for almost 2 years now and this is probably the first time something like this has happened. The cool thing about it too is it's so easy to install/uninstall that if something happens, you can uninstall it easily and not have the headache of having your car out of commission.

Mines a 6spd so I don't know about the DCT stalling. Sorry!

Just do it. It's the only tune for these engines I know of that will grow with your car. At 17psi full bolt on with straight pump 93, it's the cheapest way to get absurd power safely. The JB4 will cut boost and timing if it senses dangerous conditions.

Sorry for the shameless plug, but I am a VERY happy owner!
