Cross Camber
I got M3 suspension bits installed recently and the specs on the alignment done afterwards don't look right to me.
There is a large amount of cross camber. It was explained that it would even out when I was in the drivers seat. Would 200lbs in the front right seat fix this? I didn't think compression changed camber on MacPherson struts? |

Camber error of 1 degree seems a really big misalignment. It doesn't seem right to me at all. I am not an expert, but I doubt that's going to be fixed by sitting in the drivers seat. Do you know if there is any record of the alignment numbers before the suspension work was done?

I don't agree with the front camber difference as the specs on the cross camber is -0.50 to 0.50. As for the toe for performance you would want about 0 or slightly in the negative numbers for the front and for the rear the specs are 0.12 to 0.18 which on the highway equates to a little safer for doing quick lane changes to keep the rear in check. I had mine done yesterday and you can see the specs they went with. All they really wanted to know is it was an aggressive street setup. Although I'm not happy with the front camber settings as it should have been more.

I suspect their whole alignment rack is off. If you are at the stock ride height with m3 conrol arms (and the camber pin removed), I seem to recall the max negative camber on the 1-series is around 1.1 - 1.2 degrees. Negative camber of 1.5 seems a stretch. I would go elsewhere for a proper alignment.

I am installing Dinan camber plates and getting a new alignment done. Does anyone have recommendations of what numbers I should aim for? I do aim to track the car fairly regularly.

As a follow up to this, I installed Dinan camber plates and got a new alignment done at a different shop, looks a lot more reasonable.
CAMBER Front left: -2.28 Front right: -2.22 Rear Left: -1.2 Rear Right: -1.19 TOE Front left: 0 Front right: 0 Rear Left: +0.5 Rear Right: +0.5 Caster Left: +7.12 Right: +7.07 According to their alignment sheet the previous set up was pretty funky. It had massive amounts of toe in on the back and nothing was even left to right. |
