Mixing Runflats with non runflats
Edit: Disregard, found some good info by searching :-)
I just found a egg sized bulge on the sidewall of my passenger side front tire. It's a stock Dunlop SP Sport Runflat with about 50,000 kilometers. Problem is I have two almost new SP Sports (less than 5,000km) on the rear axle which would be a pain to get rid of in favour of getting 4 new non runflats. Are there any known issues with running non runflats on one axle and run flats on the other? Last edited by Kafer; 08-04-2014 at 03:39 PM.. |

Tire Rack says the best option is to match all 4 tires to the exact same tire. Next best is to put on the same type of tire. They aren't talking run flat versus non, however, they are talking about summer performance versus all season or something. It also isn't hard to find people who have done it and report no problem. It isn't the same thing exactly but my non-BMW SUV currently has rear tires with a totally different tread pattern than the fronts. Drives fine.
It probably also depends on how hard you push your car. I wouldn't want to run an autocross with mis-matched tires but my daily commute is not really challenging and I don't think mid-matched tires would make any significant difference.
