I can show you a picture of my 245/40 ZR 18 PSS tire that I slid into a soft curb on the Nurbergring with that split in the sidewall about an inch, and ripped the bead almost 11". They are not as durable as people think. That damaged tire is still mounted on the wheel atm, in storage.

What are you seeing on Michelinman.com that is leading you to this conclusion? When I check the specs of 245/40R18 I see :

Belt............ 2 STEEL
Sidewall........ 1 POLYESTER
Reinforcement... 1 POLYAMIDE
Tread Compound.. COMBINATION

I can find nothing that would indicate that these tires are more prone to damage or have softer sidewalls than competing products.

From our own testing, customer feedback and my own personal experience with my set of Pilot Super Sport tires, I found found that the opposite is true. Although to be fair none of our testing or experience involved sliding the tires into"soft" curbs.

Again personal experience. Tire specs on paper mean nothing. I have tracked the 595 RSR, PSS's, V12 Evo's, and BFG KDW. All of these tires have held up to the abuse of track driving except the PSS. Though none have given me the grip. I split the bead on a brand new PSS tire. Simply riding the curbs at the exit of a corner(Brunnchen) caused a gash in the sidewall about the width of a quarter, and after dismounting the tire there was a 11" section of the bead that was split. I've done the same exact thing to my Federal 595's over and over and they are still fine. The PSS's lasted almost 20k miles of mixed autobahn and track driving. They are good tires and under 99% of situations met on the road they will be just fine.

Having been in a few cars with PSS, it doesn't surprise me at all that they would be more prone to blowouts than others. They are very soft, comfortable tires.
