So you think nitrous is Rice???? Nitrous is a great power adder and FYI, I just found a Zex kit that is especialy made for turbo cars to completely eliminate turbo lag.....

ANyway, anyone done it yet?

so $678.25 for a system that works with any turbo car on the planet? They must have done a shitload of RnD to make something like that. At least it is adjustable from 25-75HP.
1350.00 and I can have 150 HP.. 2 on order, I will let you guys know when they are installed...

I'm not going to pull the Rice Flag, but you need to really do some research on Nitrous. Please tell me you are not seriously considering putting Nitrous on a BMW 135i???

I'll give you some info to research.......

Do you know the cost of an N54 engine??? THE END!!!!!

Seriously, Nitrous is very dangerous. Legally, I don't think you can even drive the car on the street with a filled Nitrous bottle?(I could be wrong, might want to check your local laws)

The Zex kit your refering to, is this direct port? Wet/dry system?

You may have found a system made for "turbo" cars, but the N54 engine is years beyond just a "turbo" motor.

I understand power can be created by using Nitrous. But the 135i is not a car I would dare even consider installing a Nitrous kit. There's many other options to get a little more power out of the car.

In all fairness I don't think your going to find anyone on this forum that would recommend "Nitrous" on a BMW 135i, its a very Sophisticated automobile, as such it should be treated like "ONE", and does not need a Zex Nitrous kit.

It's great all of these people with nitrous experience are chiming in.

The ZEX kits are well engineered and most tie into the TPS and nitrous is added progressively. Plus, turbos cars love a little shot of nitrous...added power plus it reduces intake temps.

As far as nitrous being dangerous, it can burn/freeze your skin if you put your body in the way of a discharging bottle valve, purge, or nozzle. Otherwise, I've filled many bottles and used a 300 shot on my previous street legal drag car. Plus a lot of my friends run/have run nitrous and everything is/was fine (other than some blown engines due to pushing it too hard but these are 8-9 second cars, not daily drivers).

You run into issues with nitrous when you don't know what you are doing or push the envelope too much and run too much nitrous or not enough fuel (depending on the system). And that potentially could be an issue with the 1 because of the faulty HPFP.

With that being said, I don't have any desire to add nitrous to my 1. After having several nitrous cars, it's much more fun with a power adder that is always on.

Top Fuellers use Nitro Methane, not Nitrous Oxide ... that's the end of my input into this

How would Nitrous work with the Direct Injection fueling on the BMW engine? I'd add a good LSD before any more power.

yes its dangerous. In the blow up the motor way, not freeze your hand way.
The only use i can see would be to reduce lag. And unless you change out the turbos to somthing bigger its not worth it. And the possibility of somthing going wrong with nos is much much greater when mixed with FI.

alcohol/methane injecton systems would be safer, produce power, and lower intake temps. Spray some nitrous on the IC if you really need to have it.

In my years of experience nitrous is usually used on turbo cars with big honking turbos (read turbo lag) to help get the turbos going in the lower rpms. This is pretty common with monster Supras. The 135 has tiny turbos and minimal lag. The onlly reason I would spray in the 135i is to freeze the intercooler and cool the charge, not into the engine.

That's the $64,000 question. That and this is a turbocharged engine with a high compression ratio to begin with (10.2:1). One good thing is that you can probably get software that would allow a dry system, but you'd still be waiting for a High Pressure Fuel Pump overload/failure.

And, FWIW, nitrous injection got its start in aviation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_1

From what I understnad the Zex kits are really well mae and thought out. They come with a computer that keps you from blowing up your motor. The only problem I see with the 135 is it does not kick in untill WOT, so how would that help us w/ lag? By the time the computers know were WOT the turbos are spooled, so using it for lag on our cars makes no sense, but if I had a 128....

128i would be a better choice, but even I would not put nitrous on my car. On top of the fact that MANY people who use nitrous either end up burning valves, or just blowing the motor, our motors are very expensive. So, it all depends on the 1,000,000 dollar question: How deep are your pockets for when your motor goes kablooee?

Honestly, you could put nitrous on your car. Direct injection should not matter with some kits, ie, the spray nozzle in the intake, not the direct port. But, like I said, it would be fun, the question is how long will it last for, and was it worth it?

You know you could buy a decent used purpose built drag car for the cost of a replacement N54 engine.

I was also considering using it to cool down the intercooler. I know on some vehicles this can improve HP by 10%.....

As mentioned, our engine is a direct injection engine, so unless you can get a dry system working (Using the direct injection to add the additional fuel), a wet nitrous system is a bad idea. Our intake channel is dry.

Somewhere, floating around the site's archieves, is a thread on a CO2 setup to do just that - it may be cheaper than refilling the NOS bottle. Wish I could remember what that was . . .
