Windshield Crack

I was driving on the freeway and I guess a rock hit my windshield

It started it with a small crack yesterday but then within 5 minutes I saw it spread right before my eyes. It was pretty interesting...

Does anyone have suggestions or encounter something like this? Does the windshield need to be replaced at this point or can it be repaired?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

The picture I took is from the inside of the car...

Thank you

No way to fix a crack, that requires replacement.

The general rule that a glass shop will tell you is that it can be repaired if it can be covered up by a dollar bill. Yours is obviously way too big for that.

Let us know what your insurance company says. I've dealt with this in the past and the insurance company would only cover a generic windshield and I had to pay the difference if I wanted the OEM one. Curious how this will work on the 1 since the windshield has the special rain sensor stuck to it.

Clearly needs to be replaced. That's what glass ins coverage is for.

No fuss, just call your insurance carrier and see. You may be in a state that mandates full glass repair with no deductible.

Definitely needs to be replaced. I just had mine done. Nice to get a new OE windshield.

Did the dealer replace yours? Wondering what is involved with replacing it with that rain sensor.

I had a crack that rode up to the edge of the window. Your insurance should cover that if you have full coverage. I had safelite change my wind shield and only had to pay for my deductible.

Just ordered my windshield!

I had a crack from a stone on the highway, in a weeks time it's grown about two inches.
So went into a shop from a recommendation from my detailer. With a $200 deductible it's gonna cost me approx $758!! I guess the rain sensor and moisture thingy, up the price considerably.

Hope ya have better luck than me.

I had to have mine replaced a few days ago - and my car doesn't even have 250 miles on it yet. I had the dealer replace it. They had all the parts in stock and it took 'em most of the day. I had it back before the dealership closed. Because it has the rain sensor technology, it's a pricey windshield to replace. Approx. $850 plus tax.

Careful of where you get it replaced. I had one replaced in NJ and it had a defect that always drew my eye towards it.

No, my insurance (USAA) recommended SafeLite, they purchased a new windshield from BMW directly and installed it for me while I was at work. Great experience.

Have same insurance and SafeLite did mine as well. They used an identical Pilkington windshield and all new seals direct from BMW. Thank God for 0 deductible glass replacement in SC!

I have had to replace 3 windshields on my 135i. Total cost has always been around $500. I now have a $100 deductable. Live and learn.

These windshields crack easier than any car I have owned.

I have had front glass replaced on both z4 and an m5. In both cases the glass shop was going to use generic glass, I told them I wanted pilkington with the roundel symbol in it. Both had rain sensors, the glass shop told me the roundel glass cost LESS than the generic. I have no idea why, this is SoCal. The lesson is it never hurts to ask questions
