You have the E46 kits mostly wrong. Most of the E46 kits you showed were the M-tech kit and not the M-sport. This is the only pic in there of the E46 M-sport kit:

Is that true?

The car on the left is a pre facelift model (1998-2001). The car on the right is a facelift model (2001-2004). Both cars have the M Sport Package I. All other e46 pictures posted by me show cars of the M Sport Package II. In The Netherlands there isn't a difference between the M Sport Package and M Technic. I know in the UK for example there are more differences between the e30 325i M Sport and a normal e30 325i. In The Netherlands the M Sport Package is mainly 'esthetical'. So I don't see the difference between M Sport or M Tech kit. Most pictures shown by me are pictures of cars that were delivered like this by the BMW factory. What BMW does is the following:

Introduction new model (e30-e36-e46-e90)
Introduction of M Sport Package I (e30-e36-e46-e90)
Introduction of facelift model (e30-e36-e46-e90)
Introduction of M Sport Package II (e30-e36-e46-e90)

That burgandy #28i is by far one of the sickest 2-door sedans ever created. Perfection in my opinion. Great pictures

The US it was quite different.

Msport - Available not too long after the introduction of the E46 sedan and carried through the end of its lifetime on all sport package equipped E46's. This still came with the style 68 wheels.

Mtech - Available as a part of the ZHP package which included a tuned engine for an extra 10hp, suspension mods, 135 wheels, and the sculpted bodywork. This was not available until 2 years ago...

While I love the ZHP package, I have trouble calling it an m-sport package...

I think that they all look great but I have to say that the best looking one is for the E46.

Just my opinion

I like the E46 ZHP kit the most.

I really like the looks of the M5 front. The current M-sport kit doesnt flow with the lines of the car IMO.

I understand and I agree !

The reason why I posted this thread is because I have always loved especially the 'minor/subtle' changes that made the 3 series (e30-e36-e46-e90) look better and more sporty without making it look completely different.

I've read completely different reactions about the M Sport Package, for example:

I hope most people will agree with vladinecko and won't even notice the difference. I'm still not sure but I might go for an e90 325i with M Sport Package. The most important thing is that I know I drive a car with that little bit extra. I must like it myself! I hope that only 'experts' will see it.

I might be mistaken - but the E46 Sport Package with the one big airdam was called the "Sports Package" here - and then the kit with the 3 air dams was called the M Sports Package.

I'm sure BMW are going to launch another M sports kit for our E90's (after the M3's released) that will look similar to the M3. Kind of like how the "M-tech" kit (Or ZHP or M Sport Package II) looks like the E46 M3...kindof.

That's Alan Taur's old car. It was originally a 95 US-spec M3, but ended up being identical to a 98.5+ Euro-spec M3 with an S50B32, 6spd and a whole bunch of OEM retrofittings (the M-parallel conversion alone required $4000 of bodywork). Car is a legend in E36 circles.
