Took a drive in a freshly washed 1'er with top up and windows down to air out the inside of the top... to Griot's Garage flagship store, where I got a personal hands-on tutorial on orbital tools, advice on a light spot on the top and how to clean it, advice on wax, clay bar, glass polishing, leather cleaning/conditioning, and several other topics. Walked out $460 lighter (BMWCCA discount saved $45), but well laden with car care stuff. If that sour-oil smell is residual on interior surfaces, I'm well on my way to knocking it down.

Well,
Today was an interesting day on the ice.

I got to play tow vehicle. Guy got into an argument with a snowbank.
Snowbank won.
Jumped timing (exposed belt, Honda).
So I used my tow strap to pull him onto his trailer. Worked really slick!

THEN,

Tried just pulling it over with the truck. Just slid along the ice.
So used my strap and car as an anchor then pulled with the truck. Worked really slick, didn't do any more damage.

I think I have a 1up on every BMW on that one. LOL

Nice of you. It feels good to help someone out.

Yesterday I made a quick run to the auto parts store for some miscellaneous bolts, and there was an older woman in an old Ford truck with a broken power steering belt.

The people in the store said they couldn't help her.....store policy.

She had to be close to 80, and this was a huge truck....I'm surprised she could turn the wheels at all. I ended up buying her belt as she didn't have enough money and installed it.

The auto parts guys WERE kind enough to let me borrow their tools since I didn't have anything with me though.

That's cool of you to take the time and make the expenditure to help her out. BMW drivers have a really bad reputation (sometimes well deserved!) of being selfish. You do us proud by helping a fellow motorist. Way to go!

Rmtt That's awesome of you, the world needs more people to do actual good instead of talk about it on the internet (@every_politician).

Today, I ordered a new OFHG and OCG (Oil Filter Housing Gasket and Oil Cooler Gasket), as well as the bolts that hold the oil cooler to the oil filter housing (the ones in mine are incorrect since the housing came off of an N20). There's oil all over the engine bay, and I've had to add oil between oil changes for the first time, ever (with just 300 miles until the next change, of course). I also un-did my air box mod; it's nice to be able to run it through the revs without making people look at me sideways...

Having worked at an O'Reillys, I can't say I blame them. You never know when that can of worms is gonna burst open. "Ever since you did my PS belt..." blah blah blah. On top of middle managers giving you a hard time about it, liability for the company. Ruins everything.

That said, thanks for the humanism. Only time I can remember going above and beyond for someone similarly is when some lady came in with her son's E90 328i (you can see where this is going), stating the car shakes and misfires like crazy. I grabbed my scanner from my car, pulled codes for intake VANOS solenoid. Luckily we sell these off the shelf so I installed it for her in the parking lot and fixed the issue. Then also went to her house a week later to install an alternator.

OH YEAH what'd I do to a 1 series, not mine.

Installed an entirely new power steering system in my friend's 128i. Old pump shit the bed and sent shrapnel thru the entire system.

The job was way easier than I expected. Once the airbox and bellypan is removed, you can access the entire system except for the cooler, which is available once you removed the radiator and unclip the condenser. BTW this is the first ever time I had to bust out the actual service manual. No one had a fancy DIY for anything power steering so https://newtis.info REALLY came in clutch.

Great car. Alpine white on leather coral red. M-sport, slicktop, manual, lighting package. Manual seats. He's already got the 3 stage intake (which I'm installing a new small DISA in soon lol) and is looking towards headers and MILVs.

Nice- OFHG's are a good afternoon job with a nice payoff for not too much of a labor investment. Be sure to replace the belt too if there was that much oil...

Spent part of my day playing with the boost leak test kit I picked up from https://turboboostleaktesters.com/bm...0l-twin-turbo/ Yep, the IC cold side outlet connection has a nice leak. Guess I know what I'm doing next weekend... Always nice to have plans...

I've made lots boost leak testers over the years, most just like this kit, more or less. Just didn't have time this go round, so coughed up the pennies. Gotta say, is a nice kit, glad to have it.

That OFHG was such a pain. But worth it to save over $1000

Finally ordered some damn tires.

Apex Arc 8's arrive tomorrow. Nitto NT05 235/265 arrive Thursday.

I might test fit the rears with the spacers before mounting the tires.

Installed my BMS OCC, cut out my engine cover and reinstalled. Looked mint so I took a pic showing off my (decently) clean bay and BMS parts.

I figured a thicker bar along with new rear sub-frame bushings would be plenty enough for me to have fun with on a daily driver.
Any idea what lsd most people get for the stock 135i with m suspension?

Yep.

For street use people either get a Wavetrac or or MFactory Helical LSD; or they swap in the diff from a M3. Quaife used to be very popular, but is now more expensive than the other options, so it's less popular now.

If you're tracking the car you'll want a traditional clutch diff. I wouldn't say there isn't any single one that most people get; I've got one from MFactory, a M3 swap is very popular, and OS /Giken is the first expensive option that comes to mind.

Today I dropped my car off to Simply Tuning in Brisbane for some major work including upgraded twins (MPP TD0416T's). Should come back utterly maxed out in terms of achievable power on 98RON fuel.

It's amazing how much I miss the car when it's away without me.

... looking forward to showing off some dyno graphs

Lotta guys run MFactory or Wavetrac. Quaife is great too.

I've also heard recommendations for upgrading the front sway bar, doing the LSD THEN doing the rear sway bar, to keep the balance. Not sure how true this is
