Rumour mill: BMW "M1" not happening

Not sure if you guys follow Autoblog, but this is the gossip. Pity, because if they went back to basics for the "M1" and made it the spiritual successor of the E30 M3, that would be one special car - maybe a bit too special...

Yeah been following the forum here about it. It's all yay/nay... I won't believe anything till 2011 or it has officially been released. I think if it's made into a real M car it will be too good and better than the M3 which BMW will never do. That would be making the best M car the cheapest!

IMO, there are too much details from Scott for it not to come out. Unless BMW's there to mislead us for some reason or the other. In my mind, it's still coming. How good it will be - only time will tell.

If it goes back to where the M3 was - it would sure be a hit.

Sparoz, Scott's comments are the only thing that gives me a bit of hope it'll happen. But I can see how BMW could just want to have created a bit more excitement around the 135is.

The main things, in my mind, against it happening are the end of the E8x life cycle and also the cannibalization of M3 sales.

If it does happen it's likely to be nothing short of amazing!

Not suprised either. As i have said before, why introduce a new model less than a year before the whole range is replaced.

My 2 cents - the "M1"s being sighted are mules for the next gen 1 series.
