Audio covered under CPO?

Hello,

Just started noticing crackling noises through my Harman Kardon system. Seems like it is only apparent with my iPod and Bluetooth audio streaming.

When I listen to radio, the crackling disappears but it could be that the audio quality of radio is bad.

My car is at 84,000 km's.

If it is indeed a hardware issue, would the BMW CPO warranty cover my speakers?

Seems like CD's sound good too, free of crackling noises.

Maybe only 'external devices' have the crackling noises.... Weird since it has been working fine since I got the car.

Could it the that 'external devices' runs off a different amp or something...?

There is no separate amp for anything. Second, it can't be the speakers if one audio source is clear and another is unclear. Third, the radio is absolutely not covered under CPO.

Are you using the car's bluetooth to stream? Are you using a cable? Some other device?

If you're using the AUX IN in any way it is possible that there is something wrong with the connection there. Try some different external sources to try to troubleshoot: use a USB drive to play some MP3s, use a different method to get the ipod to play (a cable if BT, BT if cable).

Sounds like it's only happening w/ using Bluetooth streaming so what device are you using to stream?

Has it always been there w/ BT or is it new?

Are you streaming to the Aux in?

Have you tried plugging in direct to Aux in? Is the crackling still there?

I could only hear the crackling noises through Bluetooth Audio and my iPod plugged in using the BMW y-cable.

However, it seems like it was just a one-off. After I got back into the car the next morning, the audio was playing just fine without any weird crackling noises... Weird!

One other thing to consider is that if you're using bluetooth, the volume on the ipod/iphone may dictate the levels being sent across the connection. If you have that maxed out it can distort and that can impact audio quality. If you turn the volume down a notch or two it usually gets rid of the distortion.

I would think the radio would be covered by CPO. Isn't CPO the extension of factory warranty? Or sly sales guy...

Or vice-versa. There is a sweet spot. Too high & it gets distorted, too low & you can sometimes get a hissing into the high end. When streaming the equipment matters. Some BT dongels are better than others. I've tried the cheap ones and they are crap. I have a $40 one that works pretty well but does have a slight hiss when the music is turned up.

No, the the CPO is NOT a factory warranty extension. Specifically they spell out that the following is NOT covered pretty clearly in the agreement:
Accessories:
Radio/CD (or cassette) player,
telephone, navigation system, CD changer, DVD
player or any components of those systems, plus
non-original equipment parts, components or
accessories

So...I can't tell you what's causing this , but it has happened to me on several occasions, usually when streaming Pandora via BT.

The way I solve the issue is by I shutting down the phone completely, restart it, reconnect Bluetooth in the car and done no crackling.

thanks! glad to hear that i'm not the only one and doesn't seem like it's a problem with the hardware.

Oh and I've had it a couple times and solved it by unplugging the BT to aux cable and plugging it back in.

I've had this happen MULTIPLE times myself with the SAME reasons! Only during Bluetooth music streaming... Annoying as all hell!!
