What should I do, Supersprint section 1 (cat delete) or performance exhaust? I am so torn here. Looking for more sound but can I achieve that with a $267 mid pipe or do I need to spend $615 on a muffler?

Just go for catless headers. You'll love them in every regard.

Yea but I can't do the install, I'm mechanically retarded. So that's $$$ at a shop + another tune.

Small fee to have an updated tune from AA and honestly i was charged around $300 for install at a shop near me. I managed the install myself and it's really not too bad albeit i'm relatively inclined mechanically.

They're well worth it in every regard. More power everywhere and the sound is perfect.

Don't meant to hijack but this is sort of a relevant question - your sig only states headers and a tune, do you have any other exhaust mods or all stock? How does it sound relative to stock? Increase in volume/drone/sound or just "different"?

I've had a few different setups. Currently catless headers(mapleridge-stock collector design simply without cats) and a 135i muffler. The rest is stock(including secondarys and resonator).

I've had no resonator+catless headers and 135i muffler which was very raspy and quite loud.

Stock headers+ resonator and muffler delete which sounded very good but was very loud and had a lot of drone.

I think completely stock exhaust+ catless headers is a good medium. Loud enough to be heard without being very intrusive. If you want more sound a muffler delete can get you that and if thats too much a muffler swap can achieve that.

I think everyone should go to catless headers before anything else. Firstly it provides power gains everywhere and secondly it provides a great exhaust sound. From there you can change the exhaust to suit your desires. It does introduce a bit more of the classic inline 6 sound at the higher RPM's, but i'm a big fan of that.

Cool - quite the variation list you have going there! I am not looking to replace mid-section or secondaries so the factory resonator and secondaries will stay. I was thinking to do a 135 muffler and possibly catless headers at most....still on the fence with that one, although I understand it nets the best gains. Have lots of other stuff to do first, 3 stage manifold, suspension etc etc....

any recommendations for a deep-sounding exhaust setup?

I currently have a 135i muffler with the golf-tee mod. It sounds good but I'm looking for something a bit meaner.

I took off the resonator previously which I'm definitely not doing again lol

Maybe a muffler delete?

Kgolf31 did just a muffler delete at one point. I'm sure he has a video. Other than that your options are Magnaflow, BMW PE, and Supersprint in terms of exhausts that were specifically designed for this car and will bolt right up. I'm pleased with my setup as well which is the Supersprint resonator delete pipe + the 135i stock exhaust. I will link you to the video of that. What was the issue with your reso delete? Mine has very minimal drone (only certain RPMs in a high gear when on throttle) and no rasp

Here's my setup. Couldn't be happier with that SS pipe tbh. It will clamp right up to your stock exhaust

Nope, no video.

All I have is the video without the muffler and headers:

Hey guys, quick question. I see a few of you have 135i systems on your 128 - is there anything special you have to do to make this work, or does it bolt right up like a 128 specific system? and if there is nothing special - why don't they just advertise/offer those systems for 128 as well?

Prodeminately you have to cut the mid section (and minor welding blah blah blah) to get the 135 exhaust to fit on the 128i...I cut and sleeved mine to fit. its not necessarily a bolt on but still not bad to do overall (most exhaust shops can do it rather cheaply)

Thanks

Welding is not a problem, most of my auto work I do with a buddy of mine in his garage (it's a full garage with a lift). Aside from fitting I also wasn't sure if there was supposed to be a difference in performance. My thoughts are that the 135 systems are made to accommodate that engine, and likewise for the 128 systems - so how does putting a 135 system on a 128 affect performance? or does it in any way? I hope my question makes sense.

well LOL for our cars we dont get too much from an exhaust anyways, buuuuut to me it sounds nice (I can send a sound clip). I did notice albeit ever so slightly it pulls a little harder in the midrange but its 99.9999999899999999999989991999% just for sound

The exhaust gases are going through 2 sets of cats and a resonator before they reach the muffler so it really doesn't make a difference what you do back there; just put on whatever you think sounds good.

The 135i systems aren't marketed for the 128i because we have our axelbacks welded up to the resonator, where the 135i has a very convenient flange at that point. Also, the pipes are different diameters.

Also, from experience, I know that if you cut the flange off the 135i exhaust (stock or the Performance exhaust) you can weld it right to the resonator just like our stock systems. It matches up perfectly

I have an OEM catback exhaust from my 128i that I kept in the garage and forgot about. I don't have the 128i anymore.. what is a good way to get rid of it? The dealership didnt want it.

I have mine too. You could try craigslist or on here (someone might be returning to stock). If you don't mind shipping then eBay would be your best bet. I see them on there listed at $100-200. Do you have just the muffler or the muffler and pipe?

Find somewhere that does metal recycling and scrap it. I don't think you'll be able to sell it to be honest, but who knows.
