Jb3 PNP 1.4 Questions
so i was going to hold off on getting the jb3 until i was out of warranty. but after seeing the numbers and the fact that i could have 100hp/100tq at least, it makes me crave all that extra power. however i have some questions
1) does the bt tool pick up all the codes that the dealer will see? 2) how does the bt tool plug in to the car/work? 3) is it easy to delete the codes? 4) how do i interpret the codes to be able to know what to delete? 5) for those of you that have taken your car for service having this, has the dealer ever detected anything or mentioned anything? 6) how do you switch from map to map? 7) how easy is the install my biggest paranoia is warranty. answering these questions will put my mind at ease.

2) Plugs into the OBD port under the hood release then other end into a laptop 3) If you can click a mouse then its easy 4) There is an explanation with most codes 5) Most take the JB3 out before service and with the BT you can check for any codes for piece of mind 6) Gas pedal 7) PnP should take you 45-60min the first time and less then 30minutes subsequently Let me know if that answered all your questions. If/when you are ready to order shoot me a PM or email and I will take care of you Mike |

Yes, but you have to run windows on it. Several options for that (I run parallels on my macbook)
As for the map switching, with the engine off but the key in press and hold the gas pedal for 4 seconds, release and press the gas one time for map1, two time for map2, etc. then start car and you're off Mike |

He's doing the plug and play. There shouldn't be any taping or counting wires. 60mins sounds about right to me for the first time. |

but unfortunately we are still in a windows world. Apple market share is increasing but not until it reaches 25-40% will more software be ported over. Running parallels is seamless and you only have to boot into the devil when its absolutely necessary. I always get a weird feeling when I hear the windows bootup sound on a mac Mike |

I'm using a Macbook Pro at the moment but I have an ancient PC laptop with 1.6ghz running Windows XP for the operating system. Would I have any issues running it on my PC? Also, is an internet connection necessary?

well if you have 1g ram you may be ok. my laptop is 1.7ghz and upgraded 2g ram and vista which sucks. It should work and you do need internet to download the software onto it unless you can burn it onto a cd then load it that way onto the PC.

You need to get a copy of Windows XP or Vista and install it either using Apple's Boot Camp which is included in the Leopard or with VM Fusion or Parallels. With Boot Camp you need to restart the computer and load Windows to use it as a PC but the other 2 work as an additional app from the Mac OS. Cost-wise it depends on how the Windows software is acquired. It goes for $200 up, because Vista has a Home Basic which really sucks and is not worth getting. The Parallels I believe can be found free on the internet as well as the VM Fusion. In case you need to buy the software, both go for $80. So $280 for something like this is what you're looking at. Me being a Mac user and not wanting to do this on my Mac (been there, done that) I would look into getting a netbook ($250 up) which has the requirements the JB needs. I would need to have someone confirm that a netbook has no issues running the software. Hope this is the answer you were looking for.

Are there any alerts to notify you when you have successfully switched maps using the gas pedal.
