Did you go straight through the dealership or direct through Dinan?
Actually, I had it done at a very reliable independent Dinan authorized shop. Also, waited for their price to drop. My local Dinan authorized BMW dealer has a terrible customer relations reputation, so no way I was gonna go there.

I am also following the MHD threads closely and am interested in how that plays out. Definitely won't do anything till it's past beta testing though. I'll take my time and let them work all the bugs out first.

Does everyone use the stock intake here? What do most of you recommend?

Has anyone gone through and purchased a BMW extended warranty now that our standard 4yr/50k warranties are expiring? I have read numerous threads about them and am trying to decide if it is worth it for myself. Car has had zero issues since I purchased but as I daily drive it and these can be expensive to maintain in the long run it would provide me comfort knowing that most issues would be covered. My other option is to go on without it and put some money away every month as a "break in case of emergency" if anything were to happen. The only thing that I am potentially worried about is the DCT transmission which can be very expensive to fix (clutch packs, etc). I haven't really read anything regarding the reliability of these transmissions in a bad way it just concerns me. I'm currently leaning more towards the putting money aside and taking my chance on a what has been a very reliable car and potentially begun to mod it. Any insights?

I was looking for CPO 135is's to essentially give me the kind of warranty I wanted. I have three years and 82,000 miles of coverage that way. I plan to purchase my M2 or M4 that way.

Hopefully you got something fun to replace it with. Do you mind telling us what you got? You are our go-to BMW tech so with any luck you'll be sticking around the forum to continue lending us your expertise.

I've been pricing them since my warranty will be up in March. The best quote so far is $200 off MSRP. I'm on the fence too, because $3k is a lot if nothing goes wrong. I've also read horror posts about $10k DCT replacements. Why they would put such an expensive transmission in their entry level model is beyond me. Please share what you decide.

So here's a question - sometimes when starting from a stop on my is I get some serious drivetrain vibration upon clutch engagement, seems to happen mostly once the car has warmed though that may not be 100%. Normal throttle, just an easy rolling start, and the vibration starts as I'm easing off the pedal and through about 75% clutch engagement or until all parts are spinning at the same speed. Feels as if engine mounts are bad and the drivetrain or engine is rocking, or if you've ever had a fwd hot hatch it's the same feeling as wheel hop. Definitely doesn't seem to be normal.

I've had it in my local dealer and the first time they replaced engine mounts, and the second time they said it's normal with this car because of the flywheel and setup of the car.

Anybody else have this bad vibration? Is t something with my car that should be fixed before the warranty is up?

I'd try another dealer for a 2nd opinion before the warranty is up.

Edit: on second thought, shouldn't have a problem with the warranty since you reported the problem before the warranty expired.

Gotcha - will do. Don't want to make trouble but at the same time it really doesn't seem like something that would be deemed acceptable in these cars. It's really a quite harsh vibration and while I can understand the story of flywheel rattling and whatnot, not hearing anybody else talk about this in their 135is can only make me question

Have someone from the dealer (service advisor, tech, shop foreman) go for a drive with you and demonstrate the problem so they feel it too and know exactly what you're talking about. Maybe even have them drive it.

Now that I got the BMW Assist update completed, I can start thinking about the Dinan tune. I was thinking maybe an intake too but not really sure if they provide any benefit on this car. Any insights?
